Vista PEAK will be hosting our first annual Homecoming Saturday. We will have the Bison Stampede (5K and kids fun run) starting at 8 am, followed by a pancake breakfast (hosted by the Bison Backers), then a homecoming parade, with finally our football game at 1:00 v. Weld Central. All activities will be held here on campus. We hope for great attendance from our staff, students and community. Please spread the word!!!

October 16th - Testing Day
October 16th is a special testing day for our 9-11 grade students. 9th graders will be taking the Explore test 10th Graders will be taking the Plan test 11th Graders will be taking the practice ACT
12th graders will be off on the 16th to accommodate for testing. We will have the computer lab available for those Seniors that would like to come in on the 16th to work on College Essays or Applications.

Cap & Gown Information
On November 5th at 8:30 am Tom Holley our rep from Herff Jones will speak with all our Seniors to discuss caps & gowns, class rings and graduation announcements. Mr. Holley works with all of the APS high schools and has been in the business for almost 20 years and brings a wealth of knowledge. Parents are welcome to join but are not necessary. Seniors will be responsible for bringing information home to the parents. Students will not be measured for caps and gowns and will just need to report their height and weight on the 5th. Our caps and gowns will be Navy Blue with Light Blue trim and are being specially made for Vista PEAK! The Herff Jones team will be back at Vista PEAK on November 19th all day to answer questions and collect orders.

Honors Drop Out Window
Students who are currently enrolled in the embedded honors program and who have currently earned a D or an F will have one week to drop out of the honors class for the rest of the year. Teachers will be touching base with these students on an individual basis to discuss their options.
Guidelines for Dropping an Honors Course
- Students must currently have a D or an F in the course
- Students can chose to opt out starting Monday, Oct. 7th and must turn in opt out forms no later that Friday Oct. 11th by 3:30 PM. No Exceptions!!!
- Students will NOT be allowed to opt IN to honors for Quarter 2.
- This will be the only time in the year that students may drop out of an honors course.
- Students who drop will be enrolled in the regular course once honors is dropped, i.e. if they drop Honors English 9 they will then be enrolled in English 9 for the rest of the year.
- Any questions contact your students Honors teacher.

IMPACT Aid
Aurora Public Schools will be applying for IMPACT Aid funding from the Department of Education and the Department of Defense for the 20145-15 school year. IMPACT Aid is designed to assist local school districts that have lost tax revenue due to their enrollment of students from families who live on tax-exempt Federal properties. Letters have been mailed home to parents who are a Military Family and/or Civilian Employed on Federal Property. We are urging all of our families who fit this criteria to please fill out the surveys as soon as possible. All surveys are due back to the district by October 25th. You may return all surveys to the Prep main office. If you have not received your letter or need another one you can find it here.

New Activity Bus Stop
Thanks to the transportation department we have a new activity bus stop for those students living near Mississippi and Tower. The new stop start on October 2nd and is located at 18767 E Louisiana, 1 block south east of Tower and Mississippi.

CollegeWeekLive and Univision have teamed up to produce the Univision Virtual College Fair, October 10th 12:00 - 10:00 PM. Designed for first-generation students and their families, this free event is your opportunity to:

* Watch live presentations on getting accepted to college, paying for college, college study skills & more
Portions of the programming will be in Spanish and parents are encouraged to participate with their children.

If you do not provide us a picture, it will be tough to get you in the yearbook. If you have not taken senior pictures yet, contact Mr. Bakersky or come by room 1510 and we can work out a picture package taken by our talented yearbook photo staff.

Boys 2 Men Workshop
This is a FREE workshop for young men, grades 9-12. We will watch and discuss the DVD entitled Bring Your "A" Game.
A 22-minute docu-drama that addresses the plight of young men, broadly-speaking, their options and influences (however limited), and provides solutions to change the course of the lives of many, emphasizing the essentiality of educational achievement.

H2O Outdoors at Keystone Science School
Aurora Water is sponsoring up to ten Aurora High School students to attend " H2O Outdoors" at the keystone Science School November 13-14. During the three day program, students will learn about their watershed while hiking the Continental Divide, get in the river and learn how to test water quality, work with students from around Colorado, learn from water experts in the field and debate water issues in a mock town hall meeting. Students only pay a $25 application fee, the rest is covered by Aurora Water! The application deadline is October 18th. For more information and to apply go to the website here.
