Helping Girls with ADHD make Friends 

Friendships are an important part of growing up. But social skills don't come naturally to all children. Making friends can be particularly difficult for kids with ADHD.

 

 

This section of girls health gives the low-down on bullying among girls, which is more common than you think.



 

Helping Kids Cope with Cliques

Given how common cliques are throughout middle and high school, at some point your child is likely to face the prospect of being in one or being excluded from them. There's plenty you can do to help them maintain confidence and self-respect while negotiating cliques and understanding what true friendship is all about.

March Break is just around the corner and you are probably looking for some exciting activities to do with your kids. Look no further. We have prepared a great list of things that you can do with your kids to help you get through the break have fun, and keep your sanity too!!
This month we chose some articles specific to helping girls that we thought would be helpful.
 

 

  • Under the Sea at the Ontario Science Center Explore the great Barrier Reef and the Coral Triangle, as well as other rarely seen places in this stunning IMAX adventure.
  • Cool Kicks! March Break Sneaker Fun at the Bata Shoe Museum, from March 11-15, The Bata Shoe Museum invites kids to take part in sneaker - themed activities and crafts.
  • March Break at the Toronto Public Library  "Creepy Crawlers," Movies, Music and more will be on at branches across the city.
  • March Break at the AGO, from March 9-17.The  Art Gallery of Ontario will be holding drop-in activities for families based around the theme" Itty Bitty cities"
  • March Break at the Rom, March 9-17, the ROM is running special daytime programming. There will be all kinds of hands on activities and presentations, ranging from helping to build a LEGO Maya Pyramid to seeing demonstrations of Samurai Skills.
  • Disney on Ice at the Roger Center, from March 13-17, the Disney on Ice Show, Rockin' Ever After is on at the Roger Center
  • March Break at Black Creek Pioneer Village, March 9-17, activities are based around the theme of the Mystery of Sherlock Holmes and the clockmaker, and includes rides, a puppet show, and a detective workshop and more.
  • Maple Syrup Celebrations - enjoy a taste of the great outdoors with a visit to the Kortright Centre or Bruce's Mill for maple syrup demonstrations, horse-drawn wagon rides, pony rides, nature walks and even a visit from the folks at Reptilla.
  • Comic Book Heroes - The Bell TIFF Lightbox devotes their matinees during March Break week to the superhero. A worthwhile change from multiplex theaters, exploring the building is an experience in itself.
  • Public Skating at Evergreen Brick Works- Lace up and take a skate on family-friendly outdoor ice rink. It's the perfect place for family fun.
  • St. Patrick's Day Parade - Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day. Enjoy a family friendly celebration of Ireland and St. Patrick with colourful floats, bands, dancers, and marching groups.

We know that for many of our parents at Behaviour Matters, choosing the right school and advocating for their child can be a challenge.

 

 We are happy to announce that Marlene Kaiman has joined our team.
Marlene has been an educator and Guidance Counsellor in both elementary and high school for over 3 decades. As the former Head of Guidance and Career Education in an Ontario High School, Marlene has supported countless students and their families in various areas of need.
  
  
Her services include :
  • Consulting on the most appropriate schools and programs for your child's needs.
  • Guidance and support for families with Special Education concerns.
  • Advocating for  students and families by connecting them to a network of resources.
