Introducing Solids

For the first 6 months of life, breast milk is the only food required for most infants. In addition to nutrition for growth, breast milk contains antibodies to protect them while they are developing their own immune system.

Around 4-5 months old infants start to salivate. This is an indication that the infants digestive enzymes have started to work. This often happens around the same time as teething and is a good time to introduce solids. The age of 4-7 months old is when most foods should be introduced. Although many argue for a later introduction (up to one year of delay), the literature does not support a decrease risk of allergies beyond the 6 month window.

Symptoms that may indicate food reactivity:

  • Rash around the mouth or anus
  • Hyperactivity or lethargy
  • Allergic shiners (dark circles under eyes)
  • Skin reactions (rash)
  • Infection (especially ear)
  • Diarrhea or mucus in stool
  • Constipation
  • Runny nose
  • Slow or delayed development
  • Redness of the face or cheeks

It is best to introduce one new food at a time while observing reactions [...]  read the rest

Children's Health

Our doctors have advanced training in Pediatric Chiropractic care including infant, toddler, preschool, school age and adolescence. Please don't ignore your child's symptoms or dismiss them as normal parts of growing up. We have natural and gentle solutions to many of those common childhood ailments.

We give safe, natural alternative treatments for many childhood injuries and illnesses. Some common things parents bring their children to a chiropractor for are; poor posture, ear infections, headaches, neck, back and leg pain. These conditions are seen as symptoms such as colic, fussiness, unwillingness to play, nursing on only one side and the hair on the back of the head being worn off irregularly.

All of these indicate specific problems your child may be having that our doctors are trained to evaluate and care for. Through adjustments, nutrition and natural medicine, we can help you and your child enjoy the benefits of good health and well-being.

Chiropractic Care for Infants

Birth is an extremely athletic event that can easily result in injuries to both mother and baby. Mom may have injuries that are often associated with childbirth such as complications from C-section, tearing, incontinence or muscle soreness.

However, we rarely discuss the birth-related injuries that the baby may suffer and the treatments available for them. Whether babies are born naturally or from C-section deliveries, birth injuries can have many common presentations such as:

  • a baby not being able to turn their head resulting in trouble breastfeeding
  • a shoulder or arm that doesn't move well or is held close to the body
  • colic and earaches making life more difficult for both mom and baby

The good news is that these issues can often be successfully treated by chiropractic which has a better safety profile than regularly prescribed or over the counter medication for the same problem. Read the rest to learn of some common ailments that can be addressed with chiropractic care.
