$100,000 WELLS FARGO TIBURON CHALLENGER
The Tiburon Challenger, remains one of only six $100,000 USTA Pro Circuit Challengers in the country and it's right around the corner. There are no easy victories on the professional tour and these guys sure do put on a show for us during what we call the highlight of tennis in the Bay Area.
Once again we are fortunate to be able to host this wonderful event at our club. Tournament dates are September 24th - October 2nd.
Let's take a look at previous Tiburon Challenger Champions and what they have been up to....
2015 SINGLES CHAMPION - TIM SMYCZEK
Tim is now ranked 120 in the world. With a career high singles ranking of No.68 he will be looking to have a strong second half of 2016.
2014 SINGLES CHAMPION - SAM QUERREY
Sam beat Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon 2016 en route to the quarter finals, his best Grand Slam performance to date. Sam's ATP singles ranking is now No.29, twelve spots shy of his career high of No.17 in 2011.
2013 SINGLES CHAMPION - PETER POLANSKY
Peter is once again climbing the rankings after overcoming injuries in the past two years. This year he has won three Futures events, two in Canada and one in Florida and made another final also in Canada. The ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells this year saw him win three matches to qualify and lose a close first round to Fernando Verdasco in the first round. It's great to see Peter healthy again and making a run at the top 100 players in the world.
2012 SINGLES CHAMPION - JACK SOCK
Jack is the 2014 Wimbledon Doubles Champion with partner Vasek Pospisil and is now ranked No.26 in the ATP World Tour Singles Rankings. With a career high of No.22 in January of this year he will be looking to step things up in the second half of 2016. Jack just had a great singles win against Marin Cilic in the Davis Cup tie vs Croatia in Portland, Oregon. Sock and Pospisil also racked up a great title winning the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells in 2015.
2011 SINGLES CHAMPION - IVO KARLOVIC
6'11" Ivo is fresh off another singles title in Newport, an ATP 250 event, and one of his seven career singles titles. At 37 years of age he is now ranked No.35 in the ATP Tour World Rankings and is looking to close in on his career high of No.14 in 2008.
TIBURON CHALLENGER DOUBLES
We have seen many amazing doubles teams come through and play our tournament over the past nine years that we've had the Challenger. With the doubles format as it is now, playing no-ad scoring and a super tie break for the third set, the matches are quick and exciting and anyone team can win on a good day.

GROSSMAN CLOSING IN ON WORLD #1 RANKING
Dan and Polo won the ITF Grade A Barcelona Senior Championships Men's 50+ Doubles title held at Real Club de Polo de Barcelona winning the championship match 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 in the tie breaker. The win in Barcelona places Dan at No.2 in the World Ranking in the Men's Doubles 60+ with the potential of becoming No.1 if they win this week's tournament (6th ITF Seniors Primrose Bordeaux) in which they will be participating in the Men's 35+ and 45+. Unfortunately, they will not be offering Men's 50+ Doubles. It'll be a real test given both the younger age groups will include a few recent former touring pros.
The ITF awards points to the players respective age group, no matter what age group they play. Polo is currently ranked World No.1 in the Men's 50 Doubles.
Congratulations to Dan and Polo!
PERALTA and ZEBALLOS PERFECT RECORD IN FINALS
Julio Peralta, coached by TPC's Dan Grossman, continued his winning streak with partner Zeballos in Gstaad, Switzerland last week. The pair took home the title at the $250,000 ATP Tour event, their second on the Tour this year, keeping their unbeaten record alive beating top seeds Mate Pavic of Croatia and New Zealand's Michael Venus 7/6(2) 6/2. Pavic and Venus have won four ATP Tour doubles titles so far in 2016 which just adds to the impressiveness of this victory.
Congratulations Julio and Horacio!
