PERALTA REINVENTS HIS CAREER IN CHALLENGERS

Twelve years after walking away from the sport, Peralta is producing the best results of his career.

At an age when many of his peers have either retired or are winding down their tennis careers, Julio Peralta is at the peak of his. Under the watchful eye of coach Dan Grossman, who he credits as an integral part of his newfound success, the 34-year-old from Chile has transformed himself into a doubles specialist over the past 12 months and currently sits at a career-high Emirates ATP Doubles Ranking of No. 65. In addition to winning his first ATP World Tour doubles title this February in Sao Paulo with Horacio Zeballos, he has also won three ATP Challenger Tour doubles title this year with three different partners. At last week's $50,000 event in Tallahassee, Florida, he successfully defended his title with Dennis Novikov.

TPC JUNIOR TEAM UPDATE

TPC's Junior Tennis Teams have had a very hard fought, competitive Spring! Our Yellow Ball team, made up of boys and girls 14 years old and under, played their best tennis against the top Marin County teams, winning some, and coming up just short on the others. The Green Ball team, which played at the 12 and under level, also competed very hard in every match, winning their last match at Scott Valley this past Friday by 2 games!

Our Orange Ball team has a very strong winning record. Having a decisive victory, 29-11, over The Bay Club Ross Valley this past Friday, we came in third place in Marin County, earning an invitation to the USTA Nor Cal Sectionals at Stanford on May 21 & 22! I am very proud of how hard they fought to achieve their goal of making it to Sectionals again!

Now that the match schedule is winding down, we have created two intra-club teams made up of the three levels - red, orange and yellow. Josh Levinson, Brendan Curry and I put our heads together and came up with two evenly matched rosters, which have already started competing against each other and will continue through the month of May. The matches are scheduled on Friday afternoons, culminating on Friday June 3 with a barbecue and awards ceremony. We will be totaling the number of games won throughout the month. May the best team prevail!

Michael Friedman, Junior Team Coordinator
