HOUSE AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE: SOUTH COURT PROJECT UPDATE

Last Thursday, Architect Miles Berger and General Manager, Jerry Pang met with Town of Tiburon Planning Manager, Dan Watrous regarding the South Court Project. The Town is waiting for a few more pieces of information which our architect will complete very shortly.

Once received, the Town of Tiburon will seek a consultant for a "peer review" regarding the Biological and Lighting Studies that we have submitted. We anticipate this peer review will take approximately two months. With this timeline in mind, we anticipate being in front of the Planning Commission in September.

Till next week,

CAMPBELL JOHNSON'S CORNER

Hello all Tiburon Peninsula Club members!

I hope everyone is doing well and gearing up for an awesome Easter and Spring tennis season. My rehab from shoulder surgery here in Vail Colorado is going well and I can't wait to get back on the court. As a student of the game, I've been taking notes. Between the Indian Wells ATP event and now the Miami Open ATP, I have been watching a ton of tennis. One of the big stories in the tennis world is the "Youth Movement". This is a group of 18-20 year old professionals that are making their mark on the ATP tour.

We are looking forward to a fun evening at the Club and hope you can make it!

Miami Open 'Youth Movement' Players:
  • Taylor Fritz, Age 18, ATP #81
  • Alexander Zverev, Age 18, ATP #52
  • Borna Coric, Age 19, ATP # 46
These are some of the top ranked 18-19 year old players in the world. There are quite a few on the rise but these are the ones that have really caught my eye. The reason I bring this up is because the world's top 100 professional men's players have been predominantly in the '25 and up' age group for the past number of years. These young, up and coming professionals are paving the way for a new generation of young athletes that are trying to take over. I wanted to talk about why these teenagers are doing so well and how their behavior can benefit your tennis game!

After watching these players compete over the course of a couple weeks, the factor that really stands out is their composure. They really compete point in and point out. You can tell they focus on competing and not worrying about their strokes, how bad they're playing or things they cannot control. They are focused on the things that they can control. We can all learn from this. Whether you're playing up and down the river in your ladies clinic, a league match or simply playing a practice match, concentrating on the things you can control is crucial. Things that you can control include positive body language, effort level, and being a problem solver. Something as simple as this can really help your tennis game, especially during match play.

Stay positive and keep enjoying this wonderful game!!

CAL V STANFORD: APRIL 3; 11 AM

A couple of weeks ago a group of around 20 TPC members gathered at Stanford University to watch Cal vs Stanford Men in what turned out to be a barn burner of a match with Cal taking the victory.

Now it's the Women's turn with Stanford traveling to Cal Berkeley on April 3rd to take on Cal in what is sure to be a performance to remember. TPC new hire, Zsofi Susanyi played for Cal Berkeley graduating last year and is rounding off her position as Assistant Coach for the women's team with the match against Stanford.

Many of our TPC junior players have the skills and aspirations of playing collegiate tennis and watching tennis of this level is a priceless experience for them. The match start time is 11am.

This sounds like a lot of fun to me, we hope to see you there! Please let me know if you will be attending to give us the chance to organize a possible meet and greet for our TPC juniors players.

SWIM TEAM TIME TRIAL

Spring is in the air and both the Junior Team and the Regular Swim Team are in full swing. The team had a fun TIME TRIAL this past Friday night which featured some fast racing and a lot of team spirit! The coaches are really excited for the season ahead.

Brooke Bent, Chase Bent, and Duncan Bailey about to race a 50 Backstroke

The team also recently participated in the JUNIOR OLYMPICS--a great meet for the TUNA! There were over 1000 swimmers from about 90 teams. From TPC we had 5 swimmers who qualified:

  • Amelia Loiacano
  • Alessia Root finished off her 9-10 swimming with some great swims including making the top eight in all freestyle events! (200 free-5th, 100 free-2nd, 50 free-2nd)
  • Mia Solomon took big leaps forward in both breaststrokes (50 breast 5th, 100 breast 9th)
  • Nicholas Mahabir represented the boys breaststrokers with a 6th in the 50 and 9th in the 100
  • Max Matthews continued his assault on the record board with a New Team Record in the 50 back (31.00) and 2nd all-time in 100 back, 100 IM, and 200IM. He was also the JO champion in both the 50 free and 50 back!
Next up is the prestigious FAR WESTERNS, where Max Matthews, Nicholas Mahabir, and Mia Solomon will do battle with some of the fastest swimmers in the state! Good luck TUNA!

It's not too late to get in the "swim" of things!!! For more info on:
