TENNIS

TPC TENNIS PLAYERS

Due to a lot of welcome rain, TPC tennis players are off to a slower start than preferred. We have our first week of 2016 under the belt with only a few hours of tennis played. With this beautiful rain comes the perfect opportunity for tennis players to get in the gym and continue (or begin) their off court training routine. Often times the most challenging part is to start the process, but the rewards are significant in those first couple of adventures to the stationary bicycle, getting the heart rate up a little, breaking a sweat and perhaps spending 15-20 minutes stretching. And you're off, in under an hour you've set yourself on a pathway to health and vitality both physically and mentally.

See you in the gym!

TPC LEAGUE UPDATE

USTA 40+ season is underway with no matches played yet. We have a match scheduled every day this week and I will keep you updated on results.

AUSTRALIAN OPEN

Is Djokovic going to win it for the 6th time?

Or, are we going to see the all-time great Roger Federer earning the crown?

And let's not forget the young blood and rising stars ...... and look out for players who have graced our stage right here at the TPC during the 2015 Challenger. Americans Tim Smyzcek, Denis Kudla, last year's finalists along with Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson all who have played here in our backyard. John Isner will be looking to go deep in the tournament as the No.1 ranked American player at #11 in the world and keep an eye on Jack Sock at #26. Donald Young is No.48 in the ATP rankings and also straight into the Aussie Open along with Rajeev Ram at #89.

The qualifying draw will also see many players who we hosted last year including Jared Donaldson, Bjorn Fratangelo, Frances Tiafoe, Ryan Harrison, Mitchell Krueger, Denis Novikov, Conner Smith and Tennys Sandgren.

Also, rising American star Taylor fritz will be fun to watch along with Reilly Opelka. Fresh out of juniors, these two could be the next big thing for American tennis. Fritz has been on a steady climb and is ranked #174 in the world.

NEW PRE-K TENNIS CLASS

10 & UNDER ORANGE BALL SECTIONALS @STANFORD

I am so proud of our 10 and under Orange Ball team who were invited to play as one of the top 16 teams out of 100 teams throughout Northern California at the Orange Ball Sectionals at Stanford this past weekend! If you were one of those fortunate enough to watch them compete against the other top teams you would have been very impressed as well. Our team represented the Tiburon Peninsula Club's tennis program with great effort, passion and most importantly - impeccable sportsmanship - while having the best yet experience of their very young tennis careers.

These boys (we'll have more girls in the near future) played their little tails off over the two day tournament and came in third in their flight! Props go out to Leighton Fraser, Lucas Holden, Stanley Wong, Cole Stake, Charlie Carrier, Charlie Miller, and Callen Keenley (who earned my vote for the coveted Sportsmanship Award). They all played great and will be a big part of our tennis program for a long time! Thanks go out to all the parents and to Campbell Johnson who coached the players on Sunday!
