GENERAL MANAGER REPORT
TPC ANNUAL MEETING
TPC's Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 12 at 7 pm in the Café. Club President, Peter Winkler will preside and summarize the year for those in attendance. Committee Chairs will be reviewing their 2015 goal accomplishments.
Three members of the Board of Governors will be completing their term of office: Capucine Hoybach, Park Allen and Mike Tierney. The TPC Nominating Committee - consisting of Ken Brakebill, Nancy Shapiro and Isolde Wilson - has presented a slate of new BOG nominees that includes Luis Doffo, Byron Kilgore and John Parsons. We will post their bios for you next week.
SAFETY REMINDER
I wanted to give another safety reminder, particularly since it's getting dark earlier and Daylight Savings ends this weekend. Please remember to stop for pedestrians at the crosswalk in front of the Club. Also, please use the roundabout to drop off and pick up passengers. Drop off and pick up in front of the Club in prohibited, particularly in the crosswalk. Thank you.
THE POWER OF PERSEVERANCE
A side note for tennis buffs regarding perseverance. A few weeks ago, Jason Lew, son of our Assistant GM, Curtis Lew played in a junior tennis tournament. Jason was unseeded and reached the finals, but in a quarterfinal match, he split sets and played a 10 point super tie-breaker for the third set. Jason went down quickly and lost the first 9 points, but responded by winning 11 straight points and the match!
LOST AND FOUND
The 3 bicycles below have been left at the Club for longer than normal. If you own any of these bikes, please ensure that you claim within 2 weeks (before November 9) or they will be donated.
Till next week,
Jerry Pang General Manager

A WORD FROM YOUR TENNIS DIRECTOR
With the winter months fast approaching I would like to take this opportunity to reach out to you, the valued TPC membership, to share my thoughts and offer you some information about the Tennis Department and what's happening in the TPC tennis world.
I'd like to begin with a note of appreciation for my team of tennis pros.
We have a team of excellent teachers and players who are passionate about what they do. We have coaches who have played Division 1 collegiate tennis and many who have played professional tennis, competing worldwide for years in tournaments just like the Tiburon Challenger. Commitment of this magnitude to anything is admirable and the work these coaches do every day out on the courts is testament to their passion both for the game and for teaching the sport to children and adults alike.
There are many factors that make a coach a great coach: a love and respect for the game itself, patience, a selfless passion for teaching, a desire to help others become the best they can be, and perhaps most importantly, an understanding that tennis can serve as a vehicle for self-improvement. Successfully dealing with adversity is one of the leading factors in ensuring a tennis player's development remains on track. This is the message that all TPC pros promote to their students.
Our tennis program is vast starting with children aged 4 years old continuing all the way through high school. We teach adults of all skill levels and have teams participating in league tennis all year round. Our 2015 Adult 40 & Over Women's 4.5+ team won their entire section and are currently competing at Nationals in Southern California. As we proceed through the ladies Marin League and USTA Combo Leagues we are gearing up to begin registration for the upcoming 2016 season of USTA 40+ League. This is a very popular league season and will see TPC registering approximately 13 teams. Such a large number of teams is testament to the range of tennis players here at the Club. We do our best to cater to all levels of player and have seen many players progress through the ratings system and climb their own personal ladder of tennis achievement.
TPC has many competitive tennis teams in the various leagues and I would like to share with you my thoughts on becoming a successful player, including how we can continue to create an environment in which players of all levels and ages can thrive.
One word that I believe to be extremely powerful is "kindness" - and let's start with ourselves. The throes of competition, climbing the USTA ratings system, performing in front of your peers, attempting to live up to some personal expectation - these are all potential scenarios for us to forget the one simple thing that costs us nothing. To experience real, lasting success we have to enjoy the process of winning and losing. There is way more available to learn from a loss than a victory, but only if we do not take it personally (which can lead to some form of blame either toward ourselves, our opponent, a biased official, our coach, or the weather!). It is my hope that we can all be kind to ourselves and keep having fun out there on the courts.
Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you playing the game we all love.
TENNIS LADDER INVITATION
TPC is instituting a very exciting new program to fulfill your tennis needs! We have partnered with Tennisrungs.com to create an online Tennis Ladder system for our whole club. Both Juniors and Adults will be able to play singles and/or doubles at their level. You will also be able to join a ladder one level above your rating to get tougher competition if that is what you are looking for!
After you register you will be sent an email and asked to sign up on the ladder(s) you want to participate on. (To sign up on a doubles ladder your partner will have to register as well!) The ladders will be starting November 1, 2015. The initial order of the ladder is established chronologically, meaning the first to sign up is on the top and the next is second etc. however this is not the order that will be posted November 1! Brendan Curry and Michael Friedman will establish the initial order and then the challenges can begin.
The ladder rules are all posted on the Tennis Rungs website. Please make sure you familiarize yourself with them before you start challenging! The 3.5 Men have been the "Canaries in a coal mine" so to speak and have used this website over the past two months. Thanks to them and Murray Dunn for working out most of the kinks! Since this is a new TPC program please be patient with us and we will do our best to make this a very successful addition to our tennis program!
