GENERAL MANAGER REPORT
Dear Members,
We have completed another successful Tiburon Challenger sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank! Congratulations to singles winner, Tim Smyczk who topped Denis Kudla in the third set breakers.
Congrats also to our doubles winners, Frederik Nielsen and Johan Brunstrom who defeated Matt Reid and Carsten Ball. Frederik Nielsen had a long day yesterday that started at 9 am in Sacramento where he played and won a qualifying singles match, then drove to Tiburon for the doubles finals, and then made a U-turn back to Sacramento in the evening to be present for his final qualifying match there today! Now, that's dedication!
L-R: Nielsen, Brunstrom, Reid, Ball, and some amazing ball kids!
We continue to have strong sponsorship support for our annual tournament across the board from both members and businesses. I would like to thank Wells Fargo Bank - our Title Sponsor, Restoration Timber - Platinum Premier Sponsor, as well as the Grossman-Kennedy family, the Tolman family, the Akin family, and the Broad family for all of their generous contributions.
Players and officials have shared how much they enjoy the Tiburon Challenger because of our friendliness and hospitality. Thank you to all of the families that have housed USTA officials and players. And thanks to all of our members and volunteers who have contributed in so many ways.
This event would not have been possible without the time, labor, and effort of our core group of volunteers. A huge thank you to Lisa Benbow, Claudia Bressie, Traci Goldman, Nancy Hecht, Mikelynn Leverte, Heather Lobdell, Kim Logie, Leigh Pagan, MaryLou Tierney, Tiffany Sams, Holly Seifer, Sue Terrell, and Sue Turley. All contributed countless hours during the year and especially last week to make this year's Challenger another success.
I would also like to thank our Webmaster, Michelle Keane and Press Aide, Judy Wilson; Curtis Lew for his consecutive days of work, our Café staff, our terrific maintenance crew, and the Member Services department.
Last but not least, thank you to Tennis Director, Brendan Curry who did a phenomenal job in his first year as our Tournament Director. Brendan started working on the Challenger when he started in January and demonstrated his calm and organizational skills throughout the entire process.
The stadium removal will take place October 6 and 7 (Tuesday and Wednesday). Courts #2-3 should be ready for play on Thursday morning!
Till next week,
Jerry Pang General Manager
