GENERAL MANAGER REPORT
The Summer has gone by so quickly! It seems like yesterday that the kids had their last day of school. As many of you know the local school district will be encouraging participation in bus ridership to alleviate traffic before and after school. We will be doing our part by having a few school busses park in our overflow lots during off hours.
The $100,000 Wells Fargo Tiburon Challenger will start on September 26-27 with qualifying matches. Main draw play starts on Monday, September 28 with the finals culminating on Sunday, October 4. During prior years, we have been the third leg of the Northern California swing, this year, we will be leading off circuit followed by Sacramento and Fairfield.
Want to start previewing the Challenger circuit? Log on to www.atpworldtour.com and the upper link ATP Challenger will lead to schedule of tournaments. You will see that this week, the Challenger tour is in Vancouver and you can log on to the live stream feed just like we will be having, view the draw, schedule of play and live scoring.
The TPC Challenger has a group of devoted volunteers led by Tournament Director, Brendan Curry who has been working on this year's event since last Fall. The group coordinates volunteers at large, housing, lunches for officials and volunteers, transportation, mobilization and hospitality needs to make our event one of the best in the country. We are still seeking housing for officials during the tournament, please contact Kim Logie at kimlogie2000@yahoo.com for more information.
Labor Day is a couple of weeks away, staff has planned a fun day for members to enjoy!
Till next week,
Jerry Pang General Manager

TPC League Update
USTA Men's 4.5 had a strong showing at districts last weekend We ended up going 2-1 at districts last weekend (beating Cuesta on Friday and Sun Oaks onSaturday), losing only to an incredibly talented (and young) team from McKinleyon Saturday. McKinley advances to sectionals out of the group, but we came in 2nd in our flight.
A couple of comments and observations from the weekend from Captain Jeff Fisher:
- Joel Garrett finished the weekend a perfect 2-0 and Bill Breck finished the weekend a perfect 3-0[!] - great efforts by both of them, to cap off incredible seasons. Bill's incredible singles win Friday - coming back from 1-5 down in the second set to take the match 6-4, 7-5 - was great fun to watch and a highlight of the season. Joel - thanks for joining us this season - it was an absolute pleasure.
- TJ played 3 matches in 3 days with a pulled muscle, but was smacking forehands 'til the end. Rest up, my friend - you deserve it [special thanks to Joe Carpenter for being "on call" in case TJ was not able to answer the bell today]. TJ had a fantastic season - we rolled off 8 straight wins before running into the McKinley buzz saw yesterday.
- Matt Ockner drove down twice from Tahoe to play inspired singles matches against guys who were in reality at least 5.0's. Matt hung with a top 50, 18-and-under NorCal player yesterday, extending the match to 1.5 hours in the heat. Tremendous effort.
- Not sure what to say about Jeff and Nate other than that they formed an awesome duo all season. But for a tough loss yesterday - in which they forced a tremendous McKinley team to a breaker - they were undefeated all season, usually playing against the competition's best doubles team. They ended the season by thrashing Sun Oaks' #2 dubs team, 6-0, 6-3. Friggin' awesome!
- Thanks to Paul and Sean for great efforts in your matches this weekend, and all season. Great to see you guys out there!
- Thanks to Sean and Kevin for coming up to cheer us on and help scout on Friday.
- Thanks as always to "the Professor", Dan Grossman, for helping ensure Nate's presence at all matches, and, more importantly, helping us all with coaching and strategy. We are very lucky to have Dan on our side!
- Thanks to Zach, our "Professor-in-training", who helped with strategy and warm-ups and was a great presence on the sidelines.
- And, finally, co-captain, Dave Von Stroh ... Dave capped an undefeated regular season by gutting out a 3 setter today against Sun Oaks' best player. I was changing in the locker room after the matches were done, and the guy Dave beat could not get over how he lost the match and how tough and scrappy Dave was in pulling this one out. The guy played 15 singles matches this season, and was basically a lock for us all year. Not bad for a guy who was lugging a bottle of Pedialite around a bar last night ...
This has been a great season. We were a great team, made up of talented and scrappy players who (almost) always found a way to win. And we of course did it with style and class. Congratulations guys!

We had a great summer with Luke but he has decided to continue his college coaching career and is in the process of interviewing for a couple different College Head Coach positions. We wish him all the best in his next endeavor. In the meantime we are interviewing a few strong candidates for the position at TPC and will keep you posted.
