GENERAL MANAGER REPORT

Dear members,

The past couple of weeks have been slow though the weather has been perfect! Judging by summer camp sign-ups, the Club will start to get busier next week until school starts! Also, keep a look out for the Café specials - Food and Beverage Director, Bren Boyd is both creative and an excellent Chef!

Earlier this week, Club member Dick Jones was the distinguished recipient of the French Legion of Honor Award given by the French Consulate General in San Francisco. Dick participated in World War II during the liberation of France and Paris where he received two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Medals. Dick was TPC President in 1999. We congratulate him on this prestigious award.

The TPC Challenger sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank this year will be played September 26 through October 4. Contact Brendan Curry at Brendanc@Tiburonpc.org for box and ticket information.

Till next week,

with Kirsten Frazer, Aquatics Coordinator

Congratulations on becoming our new Aquatics Coordinator, how does it feel?

Thanks, I am really excited about my new position. I really appreciate all the compliments and congratulations I have received from the membership. It definitely feels good to be recognized for all my hard work.

Can you share with us what it was like to grow up at the TPC and swimming for Ken De Mont?

Many of my fondest memories as a kid are here at TPC, I would say the peak of my competitive swimming career was as a TPC Shark when we swam in the Marin Swim League.  The meets here were the best, laying sleeping bags out on the amphitheater seats by the Main Pool, the team cheers and RACING!!  I loved the relays and team camaraderie.  I was often the anchor of the relays because I was so competitive...this earned me the nickname Anchor by my brothers.  Swimming has a unique way of teaching kids about individual and team aspects of sport.  Those years swimming for Ken really shaped who I am today.  I learned about dedication & commitment, success & failure, competitiveness & passion, all while learning to swim like a fish and having a ton of FUN!!

USTA LEAGUE UPDATE

2015 Adult 18 & over Season - TPC had 7 teams make playoffs
Districts Bound

Congratulations to our Men's 4.5 team on making it all the way to Districts! After compiling a strong 8-2 record during the regular season, Captain Jeff Fisher and Co-Captain David von Stroh lead their men through two convincing playoff round victories. Firstly, against Harbor Point 4-1 and a convincing 5-0 victory against Mill Valley in the second playoff match sees them headed to Districts which will take place August 7th - 9th 2015.

We had two teams make it through to the second round of playoffs.

  • Our TPC Men's 3.5A team captained by Jason Lapp won their remaining four matches to meet Marin Tennis Club in the first round of playoffs winning 3-2 in a closely contested away match. The second round saw them bow out to Rolling Hills 2-3.
  • Our TPC/BTC combined Ladies 4.5 team captained by Cathy Kennedy and co-captained by Katie Kehoe had a strong regular season with an 8-2 winning record going into the first round playoffs against Harbor Point. A convincing 4-1 victory saw them move into the second round against Bay Club Ross Valley where they came up just short with a 2-3 loss.

TPC also had four teams make it through the regular season and into the first round of playoffs:

  • Men's 5.0+ captained by Dan Grossman and co-captained by Polo Cowen lost to Harbor Point in the first round of playoffs after making it through the regular season with a 4-6 record.
  • Ladies 3.0 captained by Maile Mock and co-captained by Deb Odier made it through the regular season with a 5-5 win/loss record. In the first round they went down against Mill Valley Tennis Club 1-4.
  • Ladies 3.5 (Gold) captained by Lisa Benbow had a successful 7-3 record in the regular season taking them through to the first round of playoffs where they came up just short against Piper Park 2-3.
  • Ladies 5.0+ captained by Becky Miller and co-captained by Samantha Chatham had a solid 5-4 winning record in the regular season putting them up against Harbor Point where they lost a close away game 1-2 in their first round playoffs.

Congratulations to all TPC teams who competed in the Adult 18 & over season and best of luck to our Men's 4.5 headed to Districts in August!
