Keynote Address
Making Learning Visible
Alan November, Senior Partner and Founder, November Learning

One of the most powerful and immediate concepts that can empower both educators and students is to apply emerging tools to make thinking visible in new ways and new patterns. According to renowned leader in educational technology Alan November, "When educators can really see the thinking of their students, they can more accurately provide their students with the support and encouragement they need to be successful." In his keynote address for the 2016 University Forum on Teaching and Learning, Alan will demonstrate how technology can help educators truly make learning visible. For example, using a tool called Prism (http://prism.scholarslab.org), attendees will contribute to a visualization exercise revealing their collective attitudes about using technology in the classroom. Join us for an upbeat and practical event that can open new windows into your students' thinking.

UPCOMING TRAINING
April 8, 2016 - Save the Date!

Often our students don't perceive their learning to be relevant to their world. They tell us that they want to be able to apply what they learn to their lives and future careers.  Many students state they learn more when they are able to learn through personal experiences rather than reading or listening to lectures..

This upcoming brown-bag lunch event for all instructors and graduate students features UNT faculty who have created "relevant learning" for their students.  Dr. Nancy Stockdale, Department of History, and Dr. Andrew Nelson, Department of Anthropology, have implemented learning assignments that took their students learning experiences to new levels.  Dr. Stockdale and Dr. Nelson will overview their innovative assignments, and afterwards, there will be an open discussion where participants can share their own ideas and experiences about making learning relevant.

This session is the first in a series of CLEAR TREE Talks.  This will be an ongoing series of brown bag lunch events and webinars that feature UNT faculty and students' unique experiences with engaging teaching strategies.

We look forward to seeing you there.  Bring your lunch.  Dessert and drinks will be provided.
