UNT Teaching Excellence Seminar
The Important Role of Teachers for Student Success at UNT
August 26, 2013 -UNT Gateway Center
A one-day seminar, sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Toulouse Graduate School, and the Center for Learning Enhancement, Assessment, and Redesign (CLEAR), is scheduled for August 26, 2013 at the Gateway Center. Throughout the day, UNT's outstanding faculty will provide our new instructors with access to best practices in teaching and supportive resources.
Along with sharing ideas amongst the group, seminar participants will have the opportunity to meet UNT faculty from many departments who will describe and demonstrate effective teaching practices using examples from their own classrooms. Included topics will be: classroom management, providing ongoing feedback to your students, working with students in small groups, grading assignments using rubrics, teaching in a U.S. classroom, making your class engaging for your students, and building and maintaining credibility with your students. Resource providers will present essential policies, guidelines and services provided to students so that new instructors will be able to refer their students should the need arise.
Participants will be divided into two groups this year to more specifically target programming and increase relevance for participants. Participants from STEM, fine arts, and technology disciplines will have an opportunity to attend sessions more closely related to their disciplines, as will students representing the other disciplines on campus who will also be in a separate group.
This seminar is mandatory for all new TAs and TFs. All new adjunct faculty, tenure track faculty, and lecturers are welcome and encouraged to attend! Approximately 500 graduate students, adjunct and new faculty are expected to attend sessions provided by over 30 presenters. This event is a way that UNT extends a hand to new instructors and honors their work to our students.

CLEAR is pleased to announce that our campus is migrating to TurningPoint 5 on August 16, 2013. Its features include functional hyperlinks to websites in clicker-enabled Powerpoints, cleaner interface and navigation, a full Mac version, and many improvements to clicker/data management and Blackboard connectivity.
We have created a Blackboard Organization - TurningPoint at UNT - in which you may self-enroll. There are numerous videos available with more on the way to help you learn what's new in TP5. CLEAR also highly recommends that you take advantage of the free one-hour webinars provided by Turning Technologies for TP5. Their presentations will help you get a feel for what the new version offers. They have live self-paced instruction as well.
On August 16, Classroom Support will be migrating all classroom machines to TurningPoint 5. There will be a current download version of TurningPoint 5 available for all campus users both on the Blackboard organization site and our original download site on that date as well.
One new product available from Turning Technologies is a receiver that also has 4GB of storage on it. This means you can carry your presentations, participant lists, and even a fully functional no-install version of TurningPoint 5 with you anywhere you go! Should your department be interested in buying one, CLEAR will be happy to help make arrangements.
