We hope you are enjoying the summer and have a chance to relax a bit after a very busy school year.  Don't forget to check the Parents page of our website for your child's summer reading assignments and supply lists for the fall--to take advantage of summer sales.  We had so much happening right up until the last day of school, that we want to share it all with you.  Graduation, prom, college acceptance, new teachers and more!  We hope you will share your summer adventures with us by sending in pictures and stories for our next issue.  Enjoy!
FunSizzle Days at Renaissance
The 2012-2013 school year ended with an explosion of activities as the Middle School and High School students participated in a day of selected physical activities on Monday, Jun 24th and a Field Day trip to Flushing Meadow Park on Tuesday, June 25th.  Some of the activities included dance, archery lessons, ultimate frisbee, soccer, ice skating, rock climbing  bicycling and mini-golf.  Students were taken by bus or train to various locations all around the city where they had an opportunity to either try a new sport or enjoy one of their favorite activities.  As this year's Rensizzle week took on a more academic focus, school leaders thought this would be a great way to end the school year, especially with many students just finishing up the hard work of Regent's exams the previous week.  Enjoy the pictures!

Middle School Leaders Dan Fanellli and Ram Buenaventura led the students in a day of archery.

Amanda Scott enjoyed boating in Central Park with students:

Most of our 6th-12th grade students went to Flushing Meadow Park for a Field Day of activities and a picnic. Some 6th graders joined in the fun with a nature's walk with Martha:

And after a long walk, it's was good to cool off~

Everyone agreed, this was a fun way to end the school year and we may just have another Renaissance tradition on our hands!  Thanks to Rebekah Oakes for all of her hard work organizing both Rensizzle Week and the new FunSizzle Activities, as well as the group leaders who escorted our students on their adventures.

Spotlight On... New Staff!

Renaissance has some new staff members as some teachers are changing assignments and ET is taking a sabbatical.  We would like to introduce them to you here:

Middle/High School Mathematics:  Robert Bocchieri

"Hi! My name is Robert Bocchieri. I received my four-year degree from Hofstra University in Economics and went on to pursue business studies. After completing a Master of Business Administration Degree program, specializing in Banking and Finance, I elected to move into the education field. I completed a second Master's Degree in Adolescent Education and I have taught high school classes in Special Education, Mathematics, and Business and Marketing. In my spare time, I like to go for long walks, listen to music, watch and play sports, and enjoy running.

9th & 10th Grade ICT English and Global: Ellie Shrier

Ellie teaches 9th and 10th grade ICT English and Global Labs .  During Rensizzle, she and Curtis Anderson became involved in the "Early Stages" club, which offers students heavily discounted tickets to Broadway plays, and she continues to be active with the group.

She previously worked at TRCS through the MGI program during the 2009-10 school year.  She returned to TRCS in September 2012 after teaching for two years in Brooklyn.  She is very happy to be back.

Alumni Corner
Renaissance alum Sam Gauthier will be attending law school in the fall.  Here is an update from him:

"Since my graduation from Trinity College in May of 2012, I have had the pleasure of working at TRCS as a substitute teacher. During this time, I had the chance to work with every grade in Renaissance (you're all awesome!). I also was able to work with many of the teachers who brought me through grades K-12 as a Renaissance student, as well as some great new faculty additions to the Renaissance family who began after I graduated in 2008. It has been a humbling and eye-opening experience to work with people as passionate about their subjects and students' growth as those at Renaissance and I am truly honored to have been given the chance to pass my own knowledge down to the next generations of leaders being nurtured here at TRCS.

While working at Renaissance substitute teaching, I also interned with a judge, and began exploring a career in law. My search eventually led me to apply to CUNY School of Public Interest Law, which I will be attending this Fall 2013 as an incoming first-year law student (special shout-outs to Ana and Maura for helping me edit my personal statement!). I intend to one day use the skills I learn at CUNY Law to become an education lawyer, to help ensure that both schools and students receive the proper resources to provide and receive a quality education."

We are always pleased to hear from our alumni and happy to know they are following their passions.
