Marian Anderson was born on February 27, 1897, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Berkley Anderson and Annie Delilah Anderson. John was a loader at the Reading Terminal Market and sold ice and coal in Philadelphia. Before they were married, Annie attended the Virginia Seminary and College in Lynchburg, Virginia and later worked as a school teacher. She was unable to teach in Philadelphia due to a law that applied only to Blacks,

Gregg Simpson

Born in Ottawa Canada in 1947, North Vancouver artist and musician, Gregg Simpson, has been active in visual art, music and-media since the mid-1960s. He was instrumental in the early developments in Vancouver's 1960s "golden age" of multi-media, such as the Sound Gallery and Inter-media.  As a professional drummer and percussionist, he has performed since for over forty years with some of the major names in jazz.

There first venture "Smoke Screen" was created with the hope that it would enlighten the public as to the tragic consequences of the "WAR ON DRUGS'. The producers assembled a group of actors, actresses and crew members dedicated to the concept of freedom - the right to use recreational drugs that do not harm others. See More... 

 

I wrote "Walking Still" while on sabbatical from teaching, it was an opportunity for healing through telling stories that had hardened into painful memories, and to share my softer narratives with pleasure.  I created this website as a blog to create a place where we may all share narratives so others may experience the healing effects of 'telling a story well'.  Like in Walking Still, I will continue to dig deep for the narratives of healing and invite each of you to share through comments, and posts on this blog.   I will integrate my experiences as a poet, educator and counselor as I share my reflections about friends, family, life and love with you, to continue this very worthwhile journey.

 
A Play On Words, a feature film produced and written by John Stark, is being given its world premiere at the 2014 American Film Market in Santa Monica, California, November 10th. Directed by Harvey Lowry, the film stars Kathleen Gati, with a supporting cast of Michael Vaccaro, Susan Ziegler, Tom Groenwald and Katharina Magdalena. Set in a college classroom, where Professor Pavlic lectures on the origin of man and spoken language, four students confront each other and act out their traumatic life experiences before the rest of the class. The professor keeps receiving anonymous love letters from someone. When she discovers that the love letters are being sent to her by a lesbian student in her class, the outcome leads to a moving and stunningly dramatic conclusion.See More
