Establishing "No Shooting" Areas |

I am very pleased to say that Commissioners Homola and Price-Johnson have been persuaded to consider significant changes to the proposed ordinance.
At the Monday morning business meeting, I offered some language which included, among other things, a list of excluded activities. (You can view that document, with some notations made by Commissioner Price-Johnson, by clicking here.)
After reading them into the record, I continued to express my sentiment that this is an unnecessary law. Commissioner Homola came back with an attempt to reconcile our changes and the deliberations were extended to another Wednesday workshop.
So on Wednesday this week, I stated my concerns that this proposed ordinance, with the possibility of such a large impact on the entire county was being done in haste. Then I made a motion to table the issue for some duration.
After a good deal of discussion amongst my colleagues, they conceded to my desires to table the issue until the 18th of December. They also supported a second public hearing on Camano, if the ordinance goes forward.
With more deliberations on the 18th, a 10 day advertizing time line and the promise of a Camano hearing, it will be 2013 before we act on this ordinance. Hopefully. that will give us the time needed to get it right.
Further background: This issue was brought to us by some homeowners associations that live in developments that were erected contiguous to large rural lots. Many of those in the associations enjoyed the use of the nearby landowner's 8+ acres because the previous owner had allowed the trespass. The new owner has established a safe target range for his personal use on his property and the associations are seeking to make his using it illegal.
