From the Courthouse

Greetings!

With all the talk of "fiscal cliffs" and "sequestration," you are probably as concerned as I am about what will happen to our Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.

That is why I wanted to share the information I received from Congressman Rick Larsen with you right away!

Possible Changes to Record of Decision

The Navy is considering three possible changes to the 2008 Record of Decision regarding the positioning of the P-8A Poseidon aircraft.  All three alternatives would increase the number of squadrons based on Whidbey Island.

While this may not secure the funding, it does, in my opinion, show an increased commitment to NASWI.

Florida's NAS Jacksonville would also receive an increase in all three options, while Hawaii's MCB Kaneohe Bay would either remain the same or see reductions.

For now, one can only speculate as to whether this would move us up in the order of receiving the new aircraft.  Likely, much of that will depend on the continued efforts of Team Whidbey, NASWI Task Force and the progress of the projects necessary to accomodate.

What cannot be ignored however, is in a worst case scenario, NASWI would keep the four squadrons as planned in 2008.

It is an honor to serve you.

Sincerely,

Kelly Emerson
