Director's Notes
This is your Library! Welcome.

There are many reasons to come to Tiverton Public Library. Sometimes, looking at a picture book with someone special by your side is all the motivation you need. Sitting in the light-filled building, having lunch outside on the Literary Terrace, watching the expression on a child's face as she makes a craft or completes an engineering challenge - each experience is worth the trip. TPL is the place to come for enjoyment, enrichment, sharing with family and friends, creative stimulation, finding a quiet work space or just borrowing a book.

We gain exciting insights about ourselves and other cultures through special programs, movies, discussions and art-making programs. You are vital to the equation. Your experiences shape the world you live in, making them more meaningful and transformative.

During the first full year at TPL over 86,000  people experienced it and more that 100,000  items were borrowed.
TLP continues to touch lives and to make a difference.
Come visit and experience it for yourself.

Library Will Be Open on Saturdays
The Tiverton Public Library will reopen on Saturdays beginning September 10th. Because of insufficient Town funding for Library Services this year, it was necessary to reduce staffing and open hours during the summer while a full review of library operations was carried out. The Trustees have now approved modifications that will best serve the Town's residents, within the budgetary constraints.

While the Tiverton Public Library will now be open from Monday through Saturday each week, the hours on Tuesday will be reduced to 1-8 PM beginning September 6th,  and the Union Library will be closed Saturdays.

The Library Board of Trustees continue to evaluate ways to generate additional revenue to adequately fund the library and meet the needs of the community. Should additional funds become available, it may be possible to reinstate the previous schedules.

In addition to these schedule reductions, the Trustees approved instituting a fee for out of state residents to obtain a Tiverton Library card, and a fee for use of conference rooms by out of town organizations.
ADULT EVENTS
Monday, September 12th, 6:30 PM
Living Literature will present Harpers Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird
Three performers, recreate the characters of Lee's Macomb County using their voices, their bodies and two stools in this 50 minute readers theater presentation in the library's community room. Following the performance, the performers will also take questions on the material and their process of dramatizing non-dramatic material. Living Literature is a collective of RI-based performing artists, who celebrate the written word through readers theater style performances of non-dramatic literature.
Since its inception in January of 1996, Living Literature has created well over 100 presentations based on poems, stories, novels, plays, essays, biographies, articles, and oral histories, in libraries, schools, and other community venues throughout southeastern New England. They also conduct workshops in their "Page to Stage" process for anyone interested in making the characters and events of the written word come to life for an audience. This will be Living Literature's seventh year creating presentations for Reading Across Rhode Island, the signature program of Rhode Island Center for the Book, and the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities. Living Literature is listed in the Education Roster of the Rhode Island State Council of the Arts.
