This and That
Ceramic Mural Project
The Tiverton Library Foundation received a $2,500 grant from the Newport County Fund to jump start the $60,000 project to create three large ceramic murals in the Library. Artists Mika Seeger and Peter Geisser will develop the "cartoons" after holding a series of community meetings so residents can contribute their personal histories, ideas and insights. Eventually residents will have the opportunity to work with the artists to design, make and install the murals. At least 300 people of all ages are expected to be involved in the project.
The community will help to decide how to depict the town's Native American, Portuguese and English roots; its evolving farming, fishing, marine, small shop and arts economies; and the timeless natural beauty of its beaches, woods, meadows and marshes. This endeavor will build community across generations and socio-economic groups through direct participation in the arts, and create a lasting reflection of the community.
Above is a segment of a project by the artists. Please let the Foundation know if you can help secure further funding.
