Coming This Month!
ADULT PROGRAMS FOR NOVEMBER
Tiverton Public Library presents "The Greek Tycoon", the third movie in the Anthony Quinn Centennial Series, Saturday, November 7th at 1pm.  Call the Tiverton Public Library at 625-6796 to reserve a spot.  Registration is optional; if you do not register it will be first come, first serve.



"The Beatles - Band of the Sixties"
Monday, November 9th, 6:30pm
Explore the music of The Beatles in this 60-minute multimedia presentation (part history and part musical analysis) spanning the full 1960's.  The program will be supplemented with audio clips of music and excerpts from interviews with the band members.  Presented by Aaron Krerowicz, the USA's only full-time professional Beatles scholar.  Program is free and open to the public. Registration recommended, 625-6796.
 

Yachting Book Series with Harris Gruber from Second Half Lifelong Learning Institute, Thursday, Nov. 18th, 6:00pm, The Low Black Schooner by John Rousmaniere, the story of how the schooner-yacht America, conceived, built and sailed by working sailors and the saga of how she precipitated the longest-running sporting event in history.  Free and open to the public, but registration is required.  625-6796 to sign up.  First of three in the series, with upcoming events on Dec. 16th and Jan. 6th.
CHILDREN'S EVENTS  
Small tales, tall tales and fall tales for children 8 months-5 years happen at Tiverton Public Library every week.  Our Monday Preschool Storytime is currently full with a wait list and meets 10:30-11:15 am for ages 3-5.  Our Wednesday Toddler Storytime is also full with a wait list and meets 10:30-11:15 am for ages 18-36 months.  Openings remain in our Baby/Toddler Storytime that meets every other Friday 10:30-11:00 am for ages 8-18 months.  For more information e-mail jlinhares@tivertonlibrary.org. 
 
LEGO SATURDAYS continue in our Children's Activity Room Nov. 14 and Nov. 28 from 10:30-11:45 am for children ages 5-10.  Registration began Sept. 24 and is limited to 20.  Take the challenge of the week, then be inspired to build constructions using your imagination.    Separate registration for each Lego Saturday.
 
LOVE WRITING???  NaNoWriMo for Kids, a novel writing program for children in grades 4 and 5, continues on Thursday evenings, Nov. 12th and 19th,  6-7:30 pm.  Kim Sutherland, teacher/volunteer will lead these writing meet-ups, get students' creative juices flowing and prepare them to write a novel in a month.  November is National Novel Writing Month.  For more information, e-mail jlinhares@tivertonlibrary.org.
 
"SCARY STORIES, BUT MOSTLY NOT"
Tuesday, November 10, 6:30 pm
Len Cabral presents a family Storytelling Harvest.  No school the next day (Veteran's Day) so it's the perfect time to enjoy a family night out with award winning, nationally and internationally acclaimed storyteller Len Cabral.  If you love small tales or tall tales, this diverse storyteller is sure to enchant.  Adults, teens and children age 7-105 are sure to be mesmerized by stories that will make you laugh, reminisce and just maybe make you want to sleep with the lights on.  Free and open to the public.  
Teen Events for November 
Saturday, Nov. 7 & 21, NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) Writing Marathons from 12:30-3:30pm.  Teens are invited to stop by for snacks and writing prompts to get that novel going!  We'll help you get those 50,000 words  
down on paper.   

Thursday, Nov. 12, DIY Club from 3-5pm.  Learn to make "Chatty Charms" with clay, paint, and a little heat!  Create a necklace or key chain to take home.

Wednesday, Nov. 18, Tiverton Teen Advisory Board, 6-7pm.  Come boss us around!  Tell us what you'd like to see at your library, all while eating pizza & earning  
community service hours!

 
Thursday, Nov. 19, Gaming Club from 3-5pm.  Come play our PS4 or wide selection of board games!  Show us your skills.   

Thursday, Nov. 19, Pajama Movie Night from 6-8pm.  Join us in your pj's for hot cocoa and popcorn.  We'll be watching the classic adventure movie "The Goonies"!

Tuesday, Nov. 24, Anime and Manga Club from 3-5pm.  Come tell us about your favorite anime and manga!  We'll be watching episodes of Black Butler and learning to make onigiri (rice balls)!

SUMMER READING ACCOLADES
Janet Linhares, Children's Librarian, recently received summer reading statistics from the RI Office of Library and Information Services for the 2015 Children's summer reading program "Every Hero Has a Story!"  Proudly, Tiverton Public Library placed #2 out of 62 library buildings statewide for our Special Events program attendance.  In addition, the 347 children who completed our summer reading program placed Tiverton Public Library at #6 out of 50 libraries for Children's Program Completion.  Our summer readers are super heroes statewide!

What's Up at Union?
Union Public Library invites everyone to drop in to enjoy the exquisite Georgia O'Keefe books and other unique non-fiction art books recently donated to the collection by Helen Nadler.  In addition to these fine art materials, a number of new adult fiction and non-fiction titles have been selected in memory of Amelia Camara and Lucinda Peckham, long-time friends of Union Public Library, with donations made in their memory.  The children's collection has added some exciting picture books as well - a gift from the Lawrence Family.

"ANTHONY QUINN: A 100
YEAR LEGACY" is a year-long focus by the Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival on the art, history and film of legendary actor Anthony Quinn. Tiverton Library Celebrates Anthony Quinn with a final movie on November 7 at 1PM.  Registration is optional. If you do not register it will be first come first serve. Running through November 2015, this special program will include free screenings of his films at libraries across the state with a curated monthly series; scholarly monographs; panel discussions with film and history scholars; special breakout screenings of signature films, a student essay contest (high school and college) on the legacy of this seminal artist and a video competition geared for area college students to recreate a scene from one of five films that will be showcased: La Strada, Lust for Life, Requiem for a Heavyweight, Lawrence of Arabia, and
The Guns of Navarone.

"The Greek Tycoon", to be shown Nov. 7th at 1pm, directed by J. Lee Thompson, 1978 and starring Anthony Quinn, Jacqueline Bissett and Raf Vallone, focuses on the courtship and marriage of aging Greek Theo Tomasis, who rose from his humble peasant roots to become an influential mogul who longs to be elected President of Greece, and considerably younger Liz Cassidy, the beautiful widow of the assassinated President of the United States.
