BUILDERS AND DREAMERS. A NEW MIRPA'AH.
| |
Hello Mosh Friends!
This is Avi from the Mosh Board of Directors. I began attending Mosh in 2001, and spent twelve wonderful summers there, including serving as Rosh Mosh in 2011 and 2012. This is me in 2003 with my little brother; it was our tradition to sport our Orioles pride every Shabbat.
As a tzevet (staff) member at Mosh, I learned that the Mosh Magic we frequently refer to is the magic of imagination and creativity, of turning limited resources into unforgettable experiences. Trashbags, tape, extension cords, and box fans became wind tunnels that transported us to new worlds during special days. Plywood, nails, and hammers became stargazing benches from which to have meaningful conversations while admiring the beautiful Mosh sky.
We've never needed fancy things to make magic, but 30 years since moving to Bel Air, our facilities are in need of an update to ensure that we can continue to provide a safe, nurturing environment for our campers. I'm writing to you in hopes that you'll consider joining us in this effort. We have embarked on a multi-year effort to improve and sustain the physical plant by renovating old facilities and building new ones. The next building block in that effort is a new Mirpa'ah (aka Marp aka Health Center), scheduled to open for the camp season of 2016.
We are fortunate that the Harold Grinspoon Foundation is generously matching gifts of $600 per year for three years (total of $1800). These gifts can be pledged individually or with family members. To qualify for the match, pledges must be received before November 18 of this year and paid in full by March 18, 2018. We are calling this the "Chai Match Campaign". Additionally, pledges of $9000 or more are eligible for an additional $1000 match from a generous anonymous donor. Though we hope many will be able to contribute at this level or above, gifts of all sizes are welcomed.
I hope you will join us by supporting our campaign to build a new Marp at Mosh! Click HERE to learn more about the campaign and donate today!
B'Shalom,
Avi

What is your favorite Mosh song? I really like Union Maid. And any song by Dar.
What year did you first go to Mosh? 2002 What did Mosh mean to you as a camper? Mosh was a home away from home where I felt totally comfortable and was allowed to explore who I am. It was a community that I loved (and still do). ROSH MOSH 2015. LILA WEINTRAUB What is your favorite Mosh song? Big Yellow Taxi and Rad Hayom What year did you first go to Mosh? 2004 What did Mosh mean to you as a camper? Mosh has always been a community of close friends and amazing role models. As a chanicha it was also a place where I could learn about and discuss topics that didn't come up in my classes at school.

Consider, if you will, the first 80 years of Habonim Dror Camp Moshava as the "first session" of the legacy that we're building. Eighty years of friendships, transformative summers and personal growth for thousands of campers. You can ensure that our 'second session' will carry on the legacy that we've only begun to build in the community. The Mosh Legacy Circle is a critical component of the future we are all seeking. A planned legacy gift will join you with 25 other members of the Mosh community to ensure our sustainability and future growth.
A legacy gift - including Habonim Dror Camp Moshava in your estate planning - is a wonderful way to use the resources that you have worked so hard to earn to help future generations of campers. You will be helping tomorrow's campers learn the same values, experience the same sense of community and grow into the leaders this world so desperately needs.
For more information about joining the Mosh Legacy Circle, click HERE or email jen@campmosh.org."
"Because my grandparents 'gave what they could', Mosh was there for my mother, her brother and sister to help them form their Jewish identity. It was there for me and my sister and for my kids. I want Mosh to be there for my grandkids and their kids too." Judy Gelman, Mosh Legacy Circle Member

MA KOREH B'EIZOR?
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE EIZOR?
| |
Hi everyone! My name is Naomi Tamura and I am a member of mazkirut for the Mosh Eizor this semester! So far, we have had a whirlwind of a semester with the constant cold temperatures, snow, and sadly, a cancelled event. However, we have not let Winter stop us from having a fun and successful semester thus far! Spring weather is right around the corner!
We started off this semester way back in January with the local community at the MLK Day of Service event in North Bethesda. Among nearly one hundred other organizations, Camp Moshava was lucky enough to score its very own table! We helped children decorate magnets of encouragement for youth who do not generally receive outside words of encouragement to help them succeed, and stay motivated in school.

In the beginning of February we had the Tu B'shvat family seder! We enjoyed a delicious potluck style Shabbat dinner and then broke into smaller groups to discuss the environmental activism movement and challenge the roles and responsibilities we want to have within it. We also shared ideas about 'shmita,' and connected this concept to our own lives in the 21st century. By the end of February, each kvutza (age group) had their very own Shabbat dinners by location. We are thrilled that so many of our chanichim (campers) showed up to spend Shabbat together with their friends. Thank you again to all the families who kindly opened up their homes for the Ken event. On March 15th, Eizor Moshava participated in Good Deeds Day, an annual day to celebrate doing good deeds worldwide. We partnered with the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington where our younger chanichim helped clean up a local park and stream bed, and our older chanichim helped make pillowcases for IDF soldiers. Community Shabbat Dinner and Rikud, March 27, 2015 I look forward to the rest of the semester as we have some very exciting events planned!

Elections in Israel - What are we heading for?
It's been a few weeks since the elections in Israel, the new members of Knesset took their oath to serve the state and the new government will be assembled soon. The voices leading to the election, and now after the results are very diverse. Only by looking on my Facebook feed I can see the variety of emotions, opinions and thoughts from all (almost all) the spectrum of the Israeli political map. From looking at that dispute between people someone can lose hope and think that something broke in our community.
I want to offer a different approach to think about it:
The Hebrew words חלק = Chelek= a Part of, and מחלוקת = Machloket= dispute comes from the same route, ח.ל.ק, and it is not a coincidence. By doing so it means that if you have Machloket (dispute) with someone you two share something together, even if it's the argument that you share. Arguments mean that you care, that you share opinions on something even if they are different. Basically the all Jewish traditions were created thanks for the arguments that our ancestors had in the Mishnah and Talmudic period. You know what they say 'two Jews three opinions'. I hope that we'll be smart to grow strong from those Machlokot and stay all Chelek of our people, striving for better and brighter future.
Happy Pesach, Efrat.
