BITACHON.
SECURITY AT CAMP.
| |
At Machaneh (camp) Moshava, we take the safety and security of our campers and staff very seriously. Every year before the summer, we review our emergency procedures, train our staff in executing safety drills and practice the drills with campers. We also notify the local sheriff's office and fire department of our dates of operation so that they are aware of us in case of an emergency situation.
In light of the tragedies that have occurred during the past year in our Nation, we felt it was important to re-evaluate our security measures at camp as part of our annual review. To this end we enlisted the help of John Wassel, Director of Security for the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. Mr. Wassel consults with Jewish Agencies, Schools and Camps all around this region to provide security and safety evaluations and recommendations.
In April 2013, Mr. Wassel met with a team of Mosh staff and Board Members at camp and walked the property. Mr. Wassel noted that our emergency plans are clear and well defined. He made a number of recommendations which we have already begun implementing and which you may notice when you visit us this summer. For example, we have a new gate on the Mosh road that is closer to Cherry Hill Road and we have updated our visitor procedures.
Parents and Visitors - Please Help Us Make Camp A Safer Place! You can help make Mosh safer by following these additional guidelines:
- Our new gate on the camp road will remain closed and locked. Please call the camp office to gain access - 410-893-7006.
- All visitors must report to the Misrad (Main Office) - sign in procedures will be modified for visitor's day.
- Campers who are leaving camp for any reason, must be signed out with the Rosh or ED in the misrad (office).
- Upon return, campers must be signed in with the Rosh or ED in misrad (office).
We will continue to work with Mr. Wassel to apply for Homeland Security Grants and/or other funding opportunities that will allow us to continue to implement additional safety and security measures at camp. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jen at jen@campmosh.org. |

MOSH ALUMNI.
FOCUS ON STEVE aka RAZZ RAPPAPORT.
What years did you go to Mosh?
1971-1984
What MB, KM, and Rosh were you?
KM '77, MB '78, Rosh '83 and '84
What was your favorite chug?
Chug Shayit (rowing). I loved rowing on the Gingerville Creek and under the bridge on the South River (at old Mosh).
Where did you go to college?
U of MD
What did you study?
Government and Politics
Where do you live now?
Rockville, MD, in a house full of Moshniks -- past and present!
What do you do for work?
I work for the National Labor Relations Board (I guess all those sichot, peulot, and songs about workers' rights stuck a chord with me ).
What did Mosh mean to you when you were a chanich?
Without a doubt, the best moments of my childhood were at Mosh. Mosh was where I laughed the hardest, sang the loudest, and made lifelong friendships.
If you could go back to Mosh for a day, what is the one thing you would want to do most?
Picking just one is too difficult, so here's two: Kabbalat Shabbat down at the chof (during the Annapolis years) and hanging out with all my wonderful madrichim.
Thank you Steve, for all that you give to Mosh as a member of our Board of Directors, alum and parent of current campers!

CHALUTZIM. PIONEERS.
CHINUCH 2013.
|
"Being the first is not a thing of chronology, the first [of the pioneers]... were not just those that had the good fortune of arriving to Eretz Yisrael the earliest. Being the first is a thing of character, a thing of disposition. They are the first to achieve, first to volunteer, first to initiate..." Berel Katzenelson.
Chalutzim (pioneers) were people that came to Israel with the notion to build and be built. They were people of dreams and actions. Many of the institutions and the leaders in Israel before it was established came from this group of young visionary dreamers.
The educational theme at camp this summer is "Chalutzim". Through the lens of the Chalutzim, we will be educating about leadership, partnership and social change. The Israeli Chalutzim and people that were pioneers in their fields are an inspiration that we want to bring to the Mosh community.
Camp is built like a kibbutz. Our community is based on partnership, listening and being active in every part of camp. We hope that learning about Chalutzim will add another layer to our summer experience and we too will build and be built.
