Death Cafe
Friday, September 30, 5 p.m.
Reuter Center Atrium
"Death Café" is an engaging gathering, a storytelling experience and a conversation about a subject that too often alienates those in our death phobic culture. A new movement, a shift, is at play in recovering the ritual of being with death through personal storytelling of fears, loss and death. By holding these conversations we hope to build a culture of dying wisely.
Join us at our next Death Cafe facilitated by Thirdmessenger's Karen Sanders, Greg Lathrop and Sa'id Osio.

Dear OLLI Members,
Please remember that when our newsletters are long, they are sometimes "truncated." Just click on the link at the bottom of the email to read about everything we have going on.
We look forward to having everyone back in class beginning on Monday, September 19. We have a record number of members registered for classes, so we know that we will all have to be patient when it comes to parking and all the ways we share our spaces.
Please remember that little things make a difference; sometimes we all need a reminder of Reuter Center etiquette. Turn off your cell phone in class and use your electronic devices in ways that are relevant to the class (no "Words with Friends" or checking email during lectures). If you are eating during class, remember to do so quietly and to use a lid on all liquids. Be sparing about your use of fragrances to preserve the health of those who may be allergic or sensitive to certain chemicals. Finally, we value the opportunity to discuss challenging subjects at OLLI, and we rely on everyone's willingness to listen respectfully and to disagree without being disagreeable. Our instructors (95% volunteers) spend a great deal of time preparing their lectures and deserve our attention and gratitude.
We have a great lineup of events this week. If you want to know more about volunteering in our city and county schools, please attend the Civic Engagement Committee's event on Monday, September 19 at 4:45 p.m. On Wednesday, September 21, we hope you will attend the STEM lecture; thanks to Howard Jaslow for organizing these events. On Thursday, September 22, 7 p.m. we hope you will attend Ben Fountain's author talk. Next Friday, September 23, 11:30 a.m. we will open our "Fab Friday" fall season with a discussion of the upcoming elections. We also hope you may want to attend some of the events with the Black Mountain College annual conference.
With gratitude for the many people, staff and volunteers, who make this rich and varied programming possible,
Catherine Frank
Executive Director
