We had a great first week of College for Seniors Summer 2016 classes. We appreciate your support of the Reuter Cafe and hope that we will be able to keep the cafe open throughout the summer term. Our two-week trial ends this week. Special thanks to Karen Smith for making this happen and for her amazing positive attitude every day.
Please take advantage of being part of the UNC Asheville campus by attending this week's Concert on the Quad, featuring Rational Discourse, which includes some of the talented jazz musicians who are part of UNC Asheville's faculty.
We are very lucky to have talented people who volunteer to lead our community and carry out our programs. Please take some time to read John Hammond's story about Catherine Jordan, who will begin her term as the OLLI Steering Council chair on July 1.
Thanks also to OLLI Facilities and Communications Manager Leanna Preston and UNC Asheville Webmaster Luke Withrow, for their work getting our flat panel display up and running. The display is a dynamic way to tell our OLLI story and to communicate information to people who are in the building.
Finally, please use the link in this newsletter to let us know whether you will be able to attend our Member Social on Friday, July 15. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a cookout, some cheer, and the companionship of your OLLI friends.
With gratitude for the many people who contribute to OLLI's success,
Catherine Frank
Executive Director

Catherine Jordan
takes on OLLI Steering Council's top role
by John Hammond
When Catherine Jordan left her home in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to attend Baylor University in Waco, Texas, it would have been difficult to imagine that she would return many years later to settle just a short ways up the mountain, here in the Asheville area. There was simply no way to conceive how she would become an extremely active participant in OLLI's programs and initiatives here as she closed out her career. However, hearing her describe her father's fondness for the Blue Ridge Mountains and his passion for taking the family on weekend motor excursions from Spartanburg up to Asheville and along the Blue Ridge Parkway to enjoy the scenery and partake in the wondrous surroundings, it's not such a leap at all. Catherine and her siblings shared their father's appreciation of the resources that have brought many of us to this lovely region.
