Volunteers Needed
for Personal Development Curriculum Committee
The College for Seniors Personal Development Curriculum Committee is looking for volunteers to serve on the committee. We are a working committee that meets eight or more times per year to interview new instructors and to make recommendations for each College for Seniors term. Individual duties include: Recruiting new instructors, reviewing proposals, making comments using Google Docs, and being a liaison for one to four instructors per term.
The liaison responsibility for new instructors is a big one; you are the lifeline for the new instructors, connecting them to all the resources available to them at OLLI and being available to them from proposal through the length of their course (as needed).
If you think you may be up to the task and would like to talk about the committee member role, please contact Bonnie Snyder (828) 301-0612 or email grantthehorse@gmail.com

Dear OLLI Members,
We know that online registration is at the top of everyone's concerns. As we approach the date to "go live" we continue to refine the ways we hope to merge the advantages and protocols of the new system with our current business practices. We recognize that our program is larger and more complex than many other OLLIs for whom the system has been designed, and we are working closely with the software developers to try to give you the best possible experience. We will rely on your patience and careful reading of our communication as we move forward. Please recognize that the rules and processes and our understanding of them continue to evolve. The information we printed when we went to press for the print catalog and even what we printed in last week's newsletter continues to change. We want to keep you in the loop, but we must be able to continue to change our instructions as our understanding of the system grows. Click here for the latest information on the online registration system.
We hope that you have marked your calendar to attend the Asheville Living Treasures recognition ceremony on Sunday, May 22, 1:30 p.m. in the Reuter Center's Manheimer Room. We are particularly proud that popular College for Seniors instructor Tom Sanders is among those to be honored. Click here to read the story of all of the Spring 2016 Treasures.
We are excited to announce a Summer Sunday series that celebrates our Appalachian heritage and will include two performances by the talented Barbara Bates Smith and the premiere of Outlanders,
a play by Gary Carden about Horace Kephart. More details will follow, but many thanks to Meridith Miller and members of the Appalachian Studies committee for their work putting this series together.
With gratitude for the many people who contribute to OLLI's success,
Catherine Frank
Executive Director

Sock Donations Needed
Having a pair of clean, fresh socks is a luxury that we often take for granted. However, for many homeless people, socks are crucial to daily survival. Not only do they help keep feet warm and dry, socks also provide much-needed protection to feet that walk all day long, helping the wearer avoid injury and infection.
From May 14-29, St. Eugene's Catholic Church will be sponsoring a sock drive on behalf of The Joy of Sox, an organization that distributes socks to the homeless nationwide. All socks that we collect will be distributed to the homeless in the Asheville community. If you would like to help, you can donate new socks at drop off points at OLLI and at St. Eugene's. Please contact Karen Bradley 828-645-2332 for questions.
