Dear OLLI Members, We had an opportunity this week to provide an update to the UNC Asheville Board of Trustees on the work we are achieving here at OLLI.  It's important every so often to take a step back and take a look at all that we accomplish here to improve our community of teachers and learners, to advance the mission of UNC Asheville, and to contribute to an understanding of best practices in lifelong learning. Thank you so much for all that you do to make our organization the "gold standard" and an asset to our community.
Ann Cadle and her registration volunteers are hard at work to make sure you get class schedules on Friday, December 11.  Add/Drop will begin on Monday, December 14 at 8 a.m. We will be sending full details later in the week.
Please take advantage of two opportunities to hear the Reuter Center Singers, the first today at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and another on Monday evening right here at the Reuter Center.
Brevard Music Center offers a performance today, Sunday, December 6, at 3 p.m., and at the same time Pan Harmonia will be performing a unique interpretation of selections from Handel's Messiah  at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Asheville. If you love the writing of Appalachian author Wilma Dykeman and her ground-breaking work  The French Broad, I hope you will join me on Thursday at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial for a discussion of one of my favorite chapters in the book, "No Cokes in Hell," which explores the role of religion in our region.
Next week we will conduct interviews for a new administrative support person, but we are grateful that we have been able to add Lynn Spaight to our staff as special projects manager. Lynn comes to us after having served in the chancellor's office and has extensive grant writing and project management experience.  We are grateful that she will be working on a number of strategic initiatives and know that you will enjoy getting to know her.
We also wanted to let you know that we usually conduct our annual member survey in the fall, but this year we will be sending out the survey in January, with our report at our annual Town Hall meeting, which we will hold in the spring term. Thank you so much for all of your contributions to OLLI at UNC Asheville, Catherine Frank Executive Director |
