Asheville Choral Society's (ACS) artistic director and Conductor, Dr. Melodie Galloway (UNC Asheville's music department chair and Director of Choral Activities) will be sharing insights about about the ACS's "Yuletide Candlelight" concert, which will explore music of the season, both new and old. Excerpts from Handel's Messiah and the jubilant Vaughan Williams Hodie will be some of the features of the evening. There will be familiar songs and carols for all to sing and a conclusion with brass consort and organ on the powerful and moving "The Dream Isaiah Saw," by Glenn Rudolph.
This event is free and open to the public.

Asheville Lyric Opera (ALO) brings great stories and music to life on Asheville's premiere theatrical stage, the Diana Wortham Theatre. Come enjoy a behind the scenes journey as ALO General Director David Craig Starkey and a cast of industry professionals guide you through their operatic world.

John Bridges was Pack Memorial Library's Community Activities Librarian for 30 years, one of the founders of the Asheville Community Threatre, the Asheville Symphony, and other local cultural institutions. He was a founding member of the College for Seniors and taught courses in art history, dramatic literature, and film analysis. In 2012 he was named as one of Asheville's Living Treasures.
Mr. Bridges donated his library to benefit the Friends of Pack Library, who will hold a sale of select items from the collection.

Members range from amateurs who like to take point-and-shoot snapshots to working professional photographers. We hope that you have had a restful holiday of giving thanks. We are particularly grateful here at OLLI for our community of teachers and learners. While we won't have classes until the new year, we have many ways for you to continue learning at the Reuter Center. Mark your calendars for next Friday, December 4, when Melodie Galloway will give us insights "Inside the Music" of the Asheville Choral Society's "Yuletide Candlelight" concert, and David Craig Starkey and members of the Asheville Lyric Opera will present highlights of their 2016 season. And you won't want to miss our annual Reuter Center Singers Holiday Concert on Monday, December 7.
If you or someone you know is interested in teaching for the College for Seniors, please sign up for Tech Talks on Tuesday, December 8. This is a great opportunity for instructors and potential instructors to learn or add to their repertoire of technical skills. We will also offer an opportunity to talk about course ideas with members of the curriculum committee. OLLI's Civic Engagement Committee is offering opportunities for members to help out with the Asheville City School's "Hour of Code." Please consider sharing your time and talent this holiday season.

A/V Equipment & Software at the Reuter Center
WHO: For College for Seniors (CFS) instructors and members interested in teaching for CFS
WHEN: Tuesday, December 8, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
WHERE: Second Floor of the Reuter Center, beginning in Room 206
College for Seniors is offering TechTalks, a technology information workshop, for current and prospective CFS Instructors. An information session for those interested in teaching for CFS will be offered at noon. Prospective instructors attending the "Teaching for CFS" information session are welcome to attend the workshop as well. In this final session of the World Affairs Council (WAC) fall 2015 lecture series, international studies scholar Ali Demirdas will address the role of ISIS/DAESH. Demirdas is an adjunct member of the international studies faculty at the College of Charleston who received his doctorate in political science at the University of South Carolina. He earned a master's degree in international relations at Suleyman Demirel University in his native Turkey. This lecture sponsored by the WNC chapter of the World Affairs Council, OLLI, and UNC Asheville's department of political science. Admission to World Affairs Council presentations at the Reuter Center is $10 for the public, $8 for OLLI members, and free to WAC members and UNC Asheville students.
OLLI members receive a discount to WAC.

Astronomy Club of Asheville
Holiday Social and Auction

The event is free and open to the general public, so come, bring friends and family, bid on an item or two, and support the Astronomy Club of Asheville!
The Astronomy Club of Asheville meets the first Thursday of most months from 7 p.m., with an interesting lineup of speakers and topics. OLLI members may attend club meetings and star gazes where club members will be on hand to advise and assist in the basics of astronomy and the techniques of observing celestial phenomena. Participation at club meetings and events is free to OLLI members.

The Forum is a free-flowing dialogue designed to enrich and expand participants' thinking on topics ranging from changing demographics of retirees to nuclear disarmament. Join the singers for an evening of holiday songs, contemporary and traditional choral music, and classic carols.
The Reuter Center Singers, OLLI's in-house choral group directed by Chuck Taft, with accompanist Nora Vetro, study and perform classical, popular and show tunes. Mark your calendar to attend the Holiday Concert on Monday, December 7, 7 pm.
Donations to support the group are welcome.
