"Inside the Music" is in part, a conversation with the conductor and also, a performance by soloists from the Asheville Choral Society (ACS). 

Melodie Galloway
Artistic director and conductor, Dr. Melodie Galloway (UNC Asheville music department chair and director of choral activities) will be sharing insights about about the ACS "Yuletide Candlelight" concert, which will explore music of the season, both new and old.  Music will include excerpts from Handel's Messiah and the jubilant Vaughan Williams Hodie. There will be familiar songs and carols for all to sing and a conclusion with brass consort and organ on the powerful and moving "The Dream Isaiah Saw," by Glenn Rudolph.

"Inside the Music" is free and open to the public.

Asheville Lyric Opera (ALO) brings great stories and music to life on Asheville's premiere theatrical stage, the Diana Wortham Theatre. Come enjoy a behind the scenes journey as ALO General Director David Craig Starkey and a cast of industry professionals guide you through their operatic world.

Smith, College for Seniors instructor of Art and History of Renaissance Italy as he presents information about an art tour of Tuscany, March 8-19, 2016. Mark will lead this tour across Italy, as he has for over 725 other guests, over the past twelve years. Group size is limited. Details about this tour (which includes airfare) , the itinerary and plans for the group will be presented. 
Light refreshments will be served.
Wanted: A Few Good Men

Men's Wisdom Works (MWW), groups for retired men, seeks new members for two MWW groups - Group #4 and  Group #6. 
Group 4 meets 2nd and 4th Thursdays at The Reuter Center   4:15-6:15 p.m.
Group 6 meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday at The Reuter Center   
4:15-6:15 p.m.

Men's Wisdom Works is a network of 13 groups of retired men who meet twice a month for two-hour meetings.  We discuss issues of personal importance and impact. Each group of 8-12 men form social bonds through breakfasts, happy hour gatherings, group parties and events and twice a year parties for members of all groups. Men's Wisdom Works formed its first group in 2009 at OLLI.

Buncombe County Chautauqua
Needs You!
Chautauqua presents actors who take listeners into the past by adopting historical personas who not only perform in character but take questions from their audience. These programs have been a mainstay for years in Buncombe County. 
 A group of dedicated Chautauqua audience members and former volunteers, coordinated by retired library director Ed Sheary, has been making plans to make sure that Chautauqua programs return to Buncombe County this year.  Programs will once again be held at Ferguson Auditorium at AB Tech. 
 
The theme this year is "American Adventures - 
Explore, Dream, Discover. "

Dear OLLI Members,
We had a very successful registration day on November 17, with over 750 registrations coming through our doors, and the lines for early registration completely cleared by 9 a.m.  Many thanks to all of our registration volunteers and to all of our OLLI staff, particularly Ann Cadle, for making this registration run so smoothly.  As always, thanks to the members of the curriculum committee under the leadership of Herb Gunn, Judy Piotrowski, and Paul Williamson, for putting together such a great line-up of courses.

We hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday.  Remember that the OLLI office will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24 and re-opening at 8 am on Monday, November 30.

College for Seniors (CFS) is offering TechTalks, a technology information workshop, for current and prospective CFS Instructors.   An information session for those interested in teaching for CFS will be offered at noon. Prospective instructors attending the "Teaching for CFS" information session are welcome to attend the workshop as well.  Contact CFS Program Manager, Herb Gunn, hgunn@unca.edu if you have any questions.

Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting

Sally Ekaireb, our group leader, will introduce the group to the One Point meditation practice.  This is a quiet, sitting meditation that is helpful in relieving the mind of stress and attaining better balance and focus.
Sally Ekaireb is a certified healer and counselor who offers her clients spiritually based holistic counseling.  Sally practiced Transcendental Meditation in the 1970s, and she has explored and incorporated other meditation based practices into her life since then.  

All OLLI members are welcome at our meditation programs.

International studies scholar Ali Demirdas, will be the final lecturer in the World Affairs Council fall 2015 lecture series, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1 at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center.
 
Ali Demirdas
Demirdas is an adjunct member of the international studies faculty at the College of Charleston who received his doctorate in political science at the University of South Carolina.  He earned a master's degree in international relations at Suleyman Demirel University in his native Turkey.
 
This lecture sponsored by the WNC chapter of the World Affairs Council, OLLI at UNC Asheville, and the UNC Asheville's department of political science.
 
Admission to World Affairs Council presentations at UNC Asheville is $10 for the public; free to members of the World Affairs Council and UNC Asheville students.

The Astronomy Club of Asheville's  holiday get-together and club fundraiser gives participants an opportunity to socialize, as well as show support for the club during a silent and live auction. In addition to the auctions, the club will have refreshments and a chance to win some nice door prizes.

 The event is free and open to the general public, so come, bring friends and family, bid on an item or two, and support the Astronomy Club of Asheville!

The Astronomy Club of Asheville meets the first Thursday of most months from 7 p.m., with an interesting lineup of speakers and topics.  
  Participation at club meetings and events is free to OLLI members.

The OLLI Women's Special Interest Group # 12 which just started has fewer than the required minimum for a group to operate.
