Dear OLLI Members,
We wanted to let you know that a group of visitors from Korean Broadcasting System TV will be visiting us tomorrow, Monday, November 9. They have been working with Janice Wassel of UNC Greensboro's gerontology program and hope to learn about the variety of ways we here in North Carolina are meeting the needs of older adults. They will be interviewing some of our members and sitting in on some classes. Dr. Wassel tells me that as they planned their trip to the US, Asheville was at the top of their list of places to visit to learn about best practices in fostering creative retirement.
Our Winter 2016 is now available here to view online. Click here to view the catalog online. Because of continuing issues with bulk mail delivery, we will not be mailing catalogs to our members who live in Buncombe County. You may pick up print copies of the catalog at the information table right outside the OLLI office on the upper level, beginning at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, November 9. We will have an in-person, first-come, first served registration on November 17 and will send more information about the process in next Sunday's newsletter. Thanks to the many members of our curriculum committee (under the leadership of Judy Piotrowski and Paul Williamson) for putting together such a great line-up of courses.
Please set aside time to attend the OLLI Art Bazaar, Friday, November 13, noon-6 p.m. and Saturday, November 14, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Come out to see the work of talented OLLI members and get a head start on your holiday shopping.
With gratitude,
Catherine Frank
Executive Director

Hearing Loss Information
Updates on Candidacy for Implantable Hearing Solutions
Beth Fountain,
Cochlear Americas
Saturday, November 21,
10:30 a.m.
CarePartners,
68 Sweeten Creek Road
Did you know that for severe hearing loss, hearing aids often don't do the job, even when augmented by Bluetooth devices? So it's important for many to try a different approach to hearing. Cochlear and other implants can be the solution. Qualifying for them is less difficult than it used to be, and implanting began in Asheville this year. Even those who are not candidates need to learn about them, since even infants are being implanted now.
The Asheville Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America offers such an opportunity at its next meeting, when Beth Fountain, of Cochlear Americas, will speak on "Updates on Candidacy for Implantable Hearing Solutions."
Wearers of implants will also be available for comment .
Bring a small snack to share.
