"Demystifying Hearing Aids"
Dr. Lauren Hadden

Hearing Loss Association of America, Asheville Chapter Monthly Meeting
Saturday, July 18, 10:30 am
Care Partners, 68 Sweeten Creek Road

Did you know that today's hearing aids work more effectively than those a previous generation mostly threw into drawers, exasperated? Newer generation hearing aids really do help, even though they don't lead to perfect hearing.

Research is showing that untreated hearing loss can lead to some negative consequences in terms of our health and longevity. We should all get tested as soon as there is any evidence of loss, so that the brain can adapt to hearing assistance before the leap it has to make is too big.

On Saturday, July 18, 10.30 am, the Asheville Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America will hold its regular monthly mutual support and education meeting at Care Partners, 68 Sweeten Creek Road. Dr Lauren Hadden, audiologist, will speak on "Demystifying Hearing Aids." Her talk will also refer to cochlear implants and other surgical interventions and to assistive listening devices. She will address how to know when hearing aids are insufficient help and what your options are.

Dear OLLI Members,
We look forward to seeing you at the OLLI Membership Roundup Barbecue on Wednesday, July 15, beginning at 4:30 pm. This is a great time to sign up for your membership for 2015-16 and to enjoy good food, good drink, and good friends.  Many thanks to Jeanne Smolkin for organizing this signature summer event.

This week you can also attend a performance by young artists from the Asheville Lyric Opera's Summer Artists Program on Friday, July 17. These young artists sing a variety of music, so come to hear the concert and support our partnership with Asheville Lyric Opera, whose monthly Opera Talks allow our members to learn more about this unique art form and this unique local cultural organization.

Finally, please mark your calendars to begin picking up your catalogs on Friday, August 7. (You may pick up the catalog any time on or after this date.) On this date, we will have light refreshments and the opportunity to meet our new College for Seniors program manager Herb Gunn. We wanted to make this a special and festive occasion.  Our conversations with our printer and university mailing office indicate that bulk mail running through Greenville, SC, continues to be unpredictable.  We did not want to risk the delay of catalogs, so we decided for this fall to make them available for pick-up.  Also remember that you can always view the catalog online.  Thanks for working with us as we continue to figure out how to continue to make our print catalogs available in a timely way.

We appreciate the passion each of you brings to your creative retirement,
