 Autumn Players Readers Theatre
Sunday, April 26, 2:30 pm Reuter Center's Manheimer Room
HUMBLE BOY by Charlotte Jones, directed by Andy Reed

A quirky comedy with echoes of Hamlet, this play introduces us to Felix, a brilliant Cambridge astrophysicist with a nervous stutter, who returns home for his father's funeral. There he finds that his mother has gotten rid of the bees that her husband so devoutly kept, and that she has long been having an affair with a family friend.  The play has been praised by one reviewer as "rich, original, funny and touching with characters you come to care about."
Scheduled in the Reuter Center's Manheimer Room Tickets are $6 at the door, (includes North Carolina sales tax)

Fab Friday Lecture
Friday, May 1, 11:30 am
Reuter Center's Manheimer Room Statins: Friend or Foe? by Tasha Woodall.
High cholesterol, a major contributor to heart disease and stroke, is common in older Americans, and statins are the most prescribed medications used to treat this problem. Latest cholesterol guidelines are prompting a significant shift in the way we use these medications; twenty-five million Americans use statins currently, and guidelines would indicate that more than twice that number are actually eligible to be on one, including nearly all men older than 60. This session by Tasha Woodall, associate director of pharmacotherapy at Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) Family Medicine, will explore the pros and cons of statin use and encourage an open dialogue to address any specific questions or concerns. This presentation is part of the Health Education Series.
This presentation is free and open to the public.

 | OLLI Volunteers: Find Joy and Make a Difference Part 1: The Volunteers By Lynn Sellers Part 1 of this 2-part story introduces you to two outstanding volunteers from OLLI at UNC Asheville. Be sure to follow-up with Part 2, where you can learn "Rewards and Advice for  Volunteers" ...in their own words.   What do a retired podiatrist and non-profit director have in common? Plenty, if the podiatrist is Lee Orowitz and the non-profit director is Kitty Schaller. Starting with diverse careers and pursuing very different paths, these two OLLI members find joy and fulfillment in a variety of volunteer endeavors. Their stories offer volunteer lessons for all OLLI members.   Volunteerism has long been a part of Kitty's life. As she says, "I started with volunteer work, went to a non-profit career, and now am gratefully back to volunteer work." Her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in food and nutrition launched a thirty-year career in charitable solutions to US hunger at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, one of the largest in America. Even before that, in the '70', her focus on world hunger took her to places like India and Bangladesh.   Click here to read more.    |
