 Hearing Loop in Room 206
A second assistive hearing system has been installed at the Reuter Center in Room 206 in addition to the assistive hearing system in Room 102 A/B.
This assistive hearing system or "hearing loop," helps those with a hearing aid equipped with a t-coil, hear with clarity any amplified sound that comes through a microphone or speakers.
A hearing loop is a hidden copper wire that invisibly circles a room. It captures the sound from a speaker's microphone and sends it wirelessly to your hearing aid! The speaker's voice sounds like it is
next to you, and room noise is virtually eliminated. Those without hearing aids can borrow an equivalent headset from the office.
Hearing aids need the t-coil installed and activated to pick up the signal. Not sure if your hearing aid has this? Now is the time to
check with your audiologist or provider.

Dear OLLI Members,
Please remember that UNC Asheville, the Reuter Center, and the OLLI office will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 19, to commemorate the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
I want to thank OLLI member Cindy Berryman-Fink (working in her capacity as a member of the newly formed Inclusion Committee) for collaborating with Lucia Daugherty of the Asheville Buncombe Community Relations Council and representatives of the YWCA to create an incredibly successful intergenerational conversation about race at the YWCA this past Friday. At 5 pm on a Friday evening the event was packed, with OLLI members well represented, to listen, learn, and contribute to an understanding about the challenges and opportunities to make our community more equitable and inclusive. The evening was successful not only because of the great turnout but because of the wonderful panelists (including OLLI member and community activist Carol Rogoff Hallstrom) who spoke from the heart and spoke with great insight into the current difficulties in our community and also challenged members of the audience not only to talk but to act to make a difference.
Thanks also to Steve Kaagan, Allen Brailsford, Carol Cohen, Larry Haas, Deborah Miles and all of the members of the OLLI Inclusion Committee for their work to underscore OLLI's commitment to making ours a more well-informed, welcoming, and inclusive community. Special thanks to Jim Lenburg for putting together a series of programs for Black History Month to help us continue to learn (see the full line-up in this newsletter). Thank you for all that you do to continue to think about ways to make our community even better, Catherine Frank Executive Director
