Hearing Loop Now in Room 206
We are happy to announce an additional assistive hearing system has been installed at the Reuter Center. In addition to the assistive hearing system in Room 102 A/B, there is now a system in operation in Room 206.
This assistive hearing system or "hearing loop," helps those with a hearing aid equipped with a t-coil, hear with clarity any amplified sound that comes through a microphone or speakers.
A hearing loop is a hidden copper wire that invisibly circles a room. It captures the sound from a speaker's microphone and sends it wirelessly to your hearing aid! The speaker's voice sounds like it is next to you, and room noise is virtually eliminated. Those without hearing aids can borrow an equivalent headset from the office.
Hearing aids need the t-coil installed and activated to pick up the signal. Not sure if your hearing aid has this? Now is the time to check with your audiologist or provider.

Dear OLLI Members,
They say that nothing is constant but change, and we are facing that reality here at OLLI this week. College for Seniors director Susan Poole has announced that she will be retiring from her position on April 1.
We will all miss Susan's pride and passion for the work of this exemplary lifelong learning program. We cannot, however, focus on the loss to our organization. We know that successful retirement is based on picking the "right time." Susan has chosen to retire while the College for Seniors is seeing record enrollments and is in great financial shape. Susan has cultivated nurturing and productive relationships with the College for Seniors volunteer leadership and instructors and has processes in place that will allow us to continue to offer a balanced and stimulating curriculum as we move forward. Retiring now will give Susan the opportunity to travel and spend time with her family. She will be able to take classes and enjoy the many ways that she has contributed to making Asheville a place that attracts intellectually curious retirees. We should not focus on our loss but on the many ways that Susan will exemplify and enjoy the creative retirement she has made possible for others.
We are planning an appreciative send-off, so please watch the newsletter for details. Also, while we know Susan is irreplaceable, we hope to be able to post information about this job through the university's website beginning in early February.
Despite our sadness at news of Susan's retirement, we will be excited to see all of our members back beginning this Monday, all ready to begin a new term of College for Seniors courses. Please remember that we will have people on hand to answer your questions and help you find where classes are meeting, but you can click here to find a schedule that includes room numbers for each of your courses. Also remember that this is the beginning of the spring term for UNC Asheville undergraduates, so the campus will be at its most crowded for the first few days of the week. This week you can enjoy our first Fab Friday of the winter term and one of our very popular Symphony Talks, so we will beginning the new year with plenty of activities.
We hope you can join members of our Inclusion Committee for a "Multigenerational Conversation on Race" on Friday, January 16, 5-7 pm, at the YWCA on South French Broad. The first conversation was well attended and well-received, and we hope even more people are able to be part of this important ongoing dialogue designed to build relationships in the community. Please watch the calendar for information about events the committee has planned for Black History Month in February, including a talk on February 13 by Van Duncan of the Buncombe County Sheriff's and a representative of the City of Asheville Police Department to talk about policing in our area's varied communities.
Thank you for all that you do to model creative retirement and to help us navigate the waters of change, Catherine Frank Executive Director
