Dear OLLI Members,
Thanks to everyone who made our Winter 2015 registration a success. We processed almost 700 registrations between 7:25 and 9:10 am on Tuesday, December 4. We will send out schedules late in the afternoon on December 12 and Add/Drop will begin at 8 am on Monday, December 15. Many thanks to the members of the curriculum committee who gather all the classes, to the instructors who create compelling classes, to the volunteers who take the registrations, perform the data entry, and help us in so many ways, and to the members of the staff who help to guide all of this activity. And of course, thanks to all of you who express such enthusiasm for learning.
OLLI at UNC Asheville is known for the great courses we offer through the College for Seniors, but we also offer other opportunities for members to be engaged in the community. We hope that you will take time to read Lee Orowitz's story about volunteering at the Verner Center for Early Learning.
Please take a moment to review the information about our adverse weather policy in this newsletter; let's hope, however, that all of our winter weather happens on the weekends in 2015. Of course, winter is not just about bad weather. Tomorrow, Monday, December 8, 7 pm, you can enjoy the warmth of the season when you attend the Reuter Center Singers Holiday Concert.
Thank you for all that you do to model creative retirement and to remind us every day "why elders smile," Catherine Frank Executive Director

"Coming from an R&D (research and development) world, I can continue my adventures with new and exciting challenges. " - Howard Jaslow |
What to do when it snows.....If you have a class or meeting at OLLI and the weather turns wintery, please call 828-251-6140 or check the website or your email for a notice. OLLI will follow UNC Asheville's lead; if the university closes or delays, OLLI will close or delay.
And OLLI may choose to call a delay or announce closure independent from UNC Asheville. Every effort will be made to reschedule cancelled classes or activities. We are programming for the love of learning and want OLLI members to travel safely to and from the Reuter Center during wintery weather.

Volunteer Opportunity

Verner is an early learning program of distinction where young children thrive, families flourish, and early childhood professionals excel.
We have opportunities for groups and individuals to volunteer for an hour, a day, or on an ongoing basis. Volunteers spend time with our children, teach specific skills to children and to parents, help us maintain our facilities and playgrounds, and serve on our Board of Directors and Policy Council. We even have opportunities for older children to volunteer as reading buddies for our little ones!
As a nonprofit organization, we appreciate the valuable support we receive from our volunteers. This donation of their time saves our organization both time and money that allows us to provide more for our children and families.
To learn more about our mission, visit our website: http://www.vernerearlylearning.org/
For information on volunteering, contact: Katy Allen, Family & Community Partnerships Manager, KAllen@verneremail.org 828.298.0808
