Dear OLLI Members,
We hope you have enjoyed a restful holiday and have found time to give thanks for the many blessings we all have in our community of teachers and learners.  We hope you will enjoy the slide show that exhibits the special talents of our OLLI members who took part in the recent art bazaar.  Thanks once again to the talented committee who organized the event, Sharon Kopstein, Sheila Murphy, Leanna Preston, and Donna Schramek, and to the many talented exhibitors and bakers who made for a festive celebration of OLLI talent.

We are thankful for the many ways that you can learn at OLLI and at UNC Asheville.  Even on a week when we are not holding classes, you can hear a performance from Brevard Music Center, learn about the work of UNC Asheville undergraduates, attend a lecture sponsored by the World Affairs Council, or take a behind-the-scenes look at the opera with David Starkey of the Asheville Lyric Opera. On Monday, December 8, you can begin your holiday season with a performance from the Reuter Center Singers. It's clear that even between sessions, there is plenty to do at the Reuter Center.

And we are thankful that we will get to see many of you on Tuesday , December 2, during our winter term registration.  We will be sending an email Monday morning with all the details to help you with a smooth registration.  Please see the box below for a couple of catalog clarifications.

Thank you for all that you do to contribute to this dynamic community

Just a couple of clarifications:
Ronna Bloom is offering two sections of her course Mississippi Stories: Faulkner and Welty.  The two sections cover the same course material.  One section meets on Tuesday, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm.  The second meets Tuesdays,
2-4 pm. You should sign up for only one section of the course.

Larry Griswold's course, Sports History Stories from a Master Documentary Maker, Round IV, which meets on Tuesday,
2-4:30 pm, will cover only documentaries that HAVE NOT been shown in earlier rounds of the class.  If you have taken Larry's earlier courses, you will encounter entirely new content in this course, and if you have never taken one of Larry's courses, you are in for a real treat.

Volunteer Opportunity

The Literacy Council of Buncombe County is looking for volunteer tutors to help adults in need of improved literacy skills, adults learning English as a second language, and low income children who read, write, or spell below grade level. Literacy and English proficiency are tools that help people move out of poverty and get better-paying jobs. Literacy allows parents to read to their children and support their education. Literacy Council programs change the lives of our students and future generations alike. For more information about our programs and becoming a volunteer tutor visit www.litcouncil.com or contact us at volunteers@litcouncil.com or (828) 254-3442.
