Dear OLLI Members,
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we express our gratitude for many things that OLLI brings to all of our lives. We are grateful for people like Nick Jordan, who create and lead programs for us. We hope you will read Lynn Sellers' story about Nick in this newsletter.
We are grateful for the many people who organize and lead our programs. We hope you have received your Winter 2015 catalog and are excited by the many innovative courses offered through the College for Seniors and the many lectures that you can enjoy through the Fab Friday lectures and our community partners.
We are grateful for the enthusiasm of our members, and we hope that you will help us make a safe registration this term by showing up at the Reuter Center at a reasonable hour. Our registration opening time has been creeping earlier and earlier, and we want to reverse that trend. We will not open the doors before 7 am this term and hope that you will respond by lining up closer to 7 am so that we can minimize your time in line. As always, if you have challenges standing in line or must be away, you may send in a form with a friend (everyone may bring up to three forms total). You may also contact me at 828-251-6188 to discuss your options.
As staff, we are grateful that this holiday season we will take some time to be with family and friends. We will be closed next week beginning Tuesday, November 25 at 5 pm and will not re-open until Monday, December 1 at 8 am. The staff will not be returning phone calls or answering emails during that time, so if you have questions about registration, please contact us on Monday or Tuesday, the 24th and 25th, during our 8 am to 5 pm business hours.
All of us on staff at OLLI are thankful during this season for the passion and engagement of our members and look forward to another successful beginning to the Winter 2015 term.
Catherine Frank
Executive Director

Nick Jordan: The Man. The Gift.
By Lynn Sellers
Like many people, Nick Jordan came to Asheville from somewhere else. Unlike many people, why and when he came is distinctively '"Nick." The Jordan family of five left New York to answer the call of Western North Carolina when Nick was just a teenager. Though the beauty and lifestyle of their small town, Lenoir, were compelling, the question of education, especially college-prep, resulted in Nick and his brother becoming boarders at the Asheville School.
Nick spent his professional career in business in New York City and Nashville, TN. With two daughters, Nick and his wife, Helen, were living in Nashville, when in 2000, Helen had a horrific fall and died. Within four months of Helen's passing, Nick's father died and the company where Nick was employed was sold. Nick found himself in a major life transition -- adrift.

Volunteer Opportunity

Verner is an early learning program of distinction where young children thrive, families flourish and early childhood professionals excel.
We have opportunities for groups and individuals to volunteer for an hour, a day, or on an ongoing basis. Volunteers spend time with our children, teach specific skills to children and to parents, help us maintain our facilities and playgrounds, and serve on our Board of Directors and Policy Council. We even have opportunities for older children to volunteer as reading buddies for our little ones!
As a nonprofit organization, we appreciate the valuable support we receive from our volunteers. This donation of their time saves our organization both time and money that allows us to provide more for our children and families.
