Fall 2014 class schedules will be emailed (and for a few who do not use email, USPS mailed) on Friday, August 29, 2014.
 And for the very few who did not get registered for any of their courses, Susan Poole will notify you by email or phone call.
 
 Add/Drop begins at 8 am on Tuesday, September 2.  The Reuter Center and the OLLI office will be closed on Monday, September 1, to observe  Labor Day. |

 Reuter Center's Manheimer Room  The Autumn Players Readers Theater (part of Asheville Community Theatre) is a troupe of seasoned actors dedicated to taking the theatre experience into the community. Readings of great literature by experienced performers can spark deep understanding and kindle lasting interest. As words jump from the page with conviction and emotion, stories come to life. 
 Performances take place on Sundays at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $6 at the door.

The Hooks and Needles SIG has been on hiatus this summer so mark your calendar for September 15th as the first meeting of the group for fall term. The Hooks and Needles SIG meets on first and third Mondays of each month, 2-4 pm  
 
 The Hooks and Needles SIG brings knitters, crocheters, and other  needle crafters together to share projects, tips, and creative ideas in  a casual social setting.

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity
   2014 SERVICE TRIP TO GUATEMALA Asheville Area Habitat "tithes" to Guatemala, providing funds to help build
 
 Habitat homes there. They also sponsor volunteer groups to lend a hand in physical construction. OLLI members Joyce Davis and Alan Cutter will be leading the Habitat service trip to Guatemala this year and they have a few spots available.  The OLLI Workshop Committee is seeking proposals for our 2015 program. They are looking for passionate and skilled individuals who would like to teach their favorite subject as a short, intensive, hands-on experience.

 | JOIN THE CONVERSATION  Leadership Asheville Seniors  Wednesday, September 10 - November 5, 2014
 
  This fall, Leadership Asheville for Seniors (LAS) has lined up an impressive array of Asheville area leaders representing all facets of the community from government and the economy to education and the arts. 
 
 Speakers currently on the schedule include Ester Manheimer, Mayor of Asheville, David Gantt, Buncombe County Commissioner, Tony Baldwin, Buncombe County Superintendent, Karen Cragnolin, Director of RiverLink, and many more! 
 
 Leadership Asheville Seniors is a series of day-long seminars (8:30 am - 3:30 pm) held at various sites in Buncombe County. Each of the sessions in the nine-week program acquaints you with the area's history, people, institutions, and challenges by providing opportunities to meet with community leaders, activists, and politicians. One of the main goals of the program is to open the door to civic engagement and volunteering for participants eager to bring a lifetime of experience to improve their community. 
 
 The first session of 2014 happens September 10th, and we still have openings available.

  STEM Lecture Series 
Welcome to the 4th year in our series of Interdisciplinary STEM Lectures.  Lectures in the past and our upcoming series are given by members of UNC-Asheville faculty, OLLI and the community. This year's STEM lectures are designed around the theme of New Developments in STEM Disciplines which provides all of us an opportunity to learn new developments that cross over into the different disciplines that each of us can incorporate into our own lives.  Along with OLLI members and the surrounding community, STEM lecture organizers are reaching out to the youth in our community to attend the lecture series with the intent to enrich them with the sciences that can open up new worlds and potential career opportunities.  Free and open to the public, the lectures are scheduled at the Reuter Center, 4:30-6pm  as follows:

 | Day of Caring, September 11, 2014 -  
 OLLI Volunteer Opportunity!
 Day of Caring is an annual community-wide service event coordinated by  Hands On Asheville-Buncombe. Day of Caring uniquely mobilizes and equips  volunteers to strengthen our community by matching volunteer groups  with service projects to benefit Asheville and Buncombe County  nonprofits, schools, and public entities.
 
 This year, OLLI  volunteers will join together and work to benefit MANNA FoodBank and  those in our community experiencing food insecurity.  Come be a part of  this day that celebrates volunteerism and benefits our community.  This  is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow OLLI members better  and provide a much needed service to MANNA.      Date:  September 11, 2014

 | UNC Asheville OneCard   OLLI members may obtain a OneCard, the official UNC Asheville photo ID card, in Highsmith University Union.  With a OneCard you may receive UNC Asheville discounts at local businesses and at university special events. You may deposit funds on the OneCard either in the OneCard office or in automatic deposit machines in Highsmith Union or Ramsey Library, to be used in many of the campus dining venues, including the Reuter Café. If you obtain an annual sticker for your OneCard through Campus Police, you may ride Asheville Transit at no cost.  Click here to visit the OneCard webpage to learn more.   OneCards automatically reactivate each year when you renew your OLLI membership.   If you don't already have one, visit the OneCard office in the Highsmith Student Union to get your OneCard!  NOTE: On Monday, August 18, 2014, the OneCard office will deluged with incoming UNC Asheville freshmen so plan to visit them for your card a different day!
