Dear OLLI Members,
I was very sorry to have missed the wildly successful OLLI Membership Social on Wednesday, July 16, while attending a board meeting for the research board of the Kendal Corporation (whose mission "Together Transforming the Experience of Aging" is so closely aligned to ours). My thanks to staff members Ann Cadle, Jessika Carney, Laurel Jernigan, and Leanna Preston for staffing the registration and decal stations at the barbecue and for being so helpful both in supporting this event and for being so efficient and productive during a busy week with a small staff.
The staff had great things to say about the large turnout, the delicious food, the enthusiastic traffic for vehicle decals, and the dedicated volunteers who made everything possible. I want to thank Christine Bowers, Sandy Bowles, Bev Briedes, Diane Chambers, Ann Cowden, Reeta Dean,Susan Grabel, Jan Guichard, Barbara Hearn, Nancy and Reg Herzog, LuEllen Holcombe-Epstein, Kathleen Mainardi, Bill Maselunas, Helen McClintock, Kitty McKithen, SM Nielson, Kasha Pierson, Kathy Quinlan, Anne Sayers, BA and Gary Schenck, Jan Schwartz, and Honey Solomon for their hard work to make the event such a success. And of course, this event is made possible because of the time and talent of Jeanne Smolkin. She organizes, budgets, prepares, serves, and cleans up, and she brings a warm spirit of ease and hospitality that enriches our community. Jeanne is an OLLI treasure, and I know you will join me in expressing our gratitude for everything she does!
Staff and volunteers are hard at work planning the 2014 Southern Regional Lifelong Learning Meeting that we will host July 30 through August 1 at the Reuter Center. This meeting is an opportunity for us to highlight the many strengths of our programs and community and is also an opportunity for us to learn from other lifelong learning organizations. As you can imagine, planning and executing an event like this takes a great deal of thought and effort. We are closing the Reuter Center to all other activities July 28 - August 1, and we have also shifted the catalog mail date until August 4 so that the staff can focus on the conference details. We apologize for any inconvenience, but hope that the benefit of hosting this event will be visible in new ideas and new relationships. We do encourage you to click here to take a sneak peek at the many wonderful courses we will have on offer for the fall term and to mark your calendars for registration on August 13.
Thank you for your enthusiastic support of our organization, Catherine Frank Executive Director
