Dear OLLI Members,
We are all looking forward to the Membership Roundup Barbecue this Wednesday, July 16 at 4:30 pm and hope to see you there. Jeanne Smolkin and her volunteers always create a festive atmosphere and convivial feast. In this newsletter there is more information about the event, a link for an RSVP, and also information about ways you can volunteer to be part of the action. This event is always a great way to celebrate our OLLI community.
We have many opportunities at OLLI to volunteer, and we also want to connect our members to opportunities in the wider Asheville community. There is no better way to learn about what how Asheville works than to attend Leadership Asheville Seniors. Participants who are new to the community immerse themselves in learning about the history and our unique challenges and opportunities of the area from people who are working to make a difference. Those who have lived in Asheville for a short or long time tell us that they learned more about their home town than they might have gained any other way. Design and Sew a Stylish Purse Workshop Dates: July 19, 2014 Times: 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
Instructor: Nancy Rosenberg
Fee: $70/person Materials Fee: $3 for pattern and some materials, collected by instructor at the workshop. A detailed supply list will be sent to students prior to the workshop. Open to the public; OLLI membership is not required to register.
Have fun designing and sewing your own fashionable small purse. In this workshop you will learn basic techniques for designing, foundation piecing (quilting), using stabilizers, and creating pockets, gussets, straps, and linings. With these techniques the possibilities are endless! See sample pictures and more information at www.nancysfiberart.weebly.com. Once you have made one you'll want to make more!  Participants must have sewing experience and bring their own sewing machine and supplies. Nancy Rosenberg (nancy@vectorr.com) has been sewing since childhood and quilting for over twenty-five years. She has won awards for her original design quilts at shows in New England and is known for sharing her love of creating with fabric.

Leadership Asheville Seniors
Registration Now Open!
Wednesdays, September 10-November 5, 2014
Leadership Asheville Seniors, a learning and civic engagement program planned and led by its graduates and community members, provides a multi-faceted view of Asheville and Buncombe County. Through a hands-on service project and discussions with community leaders in distinctive venues, newcomers and longtime residents alike can gain new perspectives and consider ways to contribute their diverse experiences and talents for the good of the community.
Program fee is $400, which includes catered lunches; scholarships are available.
