Dear OLLI Members, We are just finishing our Paths to Creative Retirement weekend workshop. This facilitated discussion workshop brings people from all over the country to explore the ways to navigate and make the most of the transition from work to retirement. Many thanks to the OLLI members who serve as facilitators and guides: Anne Bonnyman, Carol Culler, Bob Dunn, Babs Guardenier, Nick Jordan, Ken Macfarlane, Henry Morrow, Barry Mundt, Lori Postal, Elizabeth Pou, Anne Sayers, and Lynn Sellers, and to Laurel Jernigan who is the program's director. Thanks also to Stan Binder, Chuck Fink, and Karen O'Hara for sharing their own retirement journeys with us. IIf you know someone who is contemplating this transition, please contact Laurel (ljerniga@unca.edu) for more information about the next Paths workshop. Laurel can also give you information about our "Gift of Time" and "Exploring CCRCs" workshops that take place this spring (see information in this newsletter) and also about Leadership Asheville Seniors that takes place this fall.
We have another busy week ahead at OLLI.  On Wednesday, April 16, Tim Wise, antiracist lecturer and essayist, will be appearing in Humanities Lecture Hall on the UNC Asheville campus as part of the YWCA's Stand Against Racism.  Wise is a dynamic speaker, and we expect a full house. Please arrive early for a good seat.
We also look forward to the "UNC Asheville Scholars Showcase" in the Reuter Center Atrium on Thursday, April 17 at 4:30 pm.  UNC Asheville undergraduates will be available to talk about their research projects in a variety of disciplines. We hope that many OLLI members take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the academic endeavors of the younger lifelong learners with whom we share the campus.

With gratitude for your commitment to our community of teachers and learners, Catherine Frank Executive Director |

A New Look at the Calendar We have made a change in the OLLI newsletter calendar listing  to make it easier to see all that is happening at OLLI and on campus.

Instead of posting a separate calendar list for each week, we provide below links to OLLI's calendar and to the UNC Asheville Master Calendar (which also has an OLLI option).  We encourage you to use and become familiar with both calendars; they are a great resource for information about current events.

Over the last fifty years, Dr. Robert Moog and his company Moog Music have pioneered and developed tools that give artists the ability to create and express themselves in new and limitless ways. Moog Music synthesizers and other electronic musical instruments are designed and lovingly built in the Moog factory in downtown Asheville, N.C.      Since 2004, Moogfest has been a gathering for the musicians that worked closely with Bob and his instruments. When Moog Music brought the festival home to Asheville in 2008, it adopted a three-day multi-stage format to include contemporary bands and producers that exemplify the innovative spirit of electronic music. This year, Moogfest is amplifying its vision to include a conference of conversations and creative collaborations that eclipse any typical festival. Moogfest is charting the course for a future of unknown sight and sound.     |
