Hearing Advocates
Task Force
Members of this group are eager to hear from any member who wants information about hearing loss or who is willing to work on improving Reuter Center's listening environment.

Etty and
Consumer Racial Profiling Events
Free and open to the public.
Monday, March 24, 7 pm
The Grotto, Highsmith Student Union
Using only Etty Hillesum's words, Susan Stein's adaptation brings us to 1943 when Etty, a young Jewish woman, is about to be deported out of Holland. As she prepares for the three day journey eastward, she digs deeper into her soul to understand this piece of history and root out any hatred or bitterness, believing that humanity is the best and only solution for survival. Etty's words, insights and beliefs reach out from the Holocaust and allow us to see the power of hope and individual thought in the most extreme circumstances.
This program is part of Women's History Month and the exhibit on Women and the Holocaust now showing in Karpen Lobby.

We are looking forward to the beginning of the Spring 2014 term and having the Reuter Center enlivened by our members in pursuit of lifelong learning. We hope to have a good crowd for our annual Town Hall meeting when we will discuss the results of the Annual Member Survey, review our finances, introduce the slate of officers for our 2014-15 OLLI Steering Council, and review the year's accomplishments. This is an opportunity to ask questions and to celebrate all that we have done in search of continuous improvement and innovation at OLLI.
This newsletter contains information about a number of opportunities to make a difference in the greater Asheville community. We encourage you to bring your gently used professional clothing for our "Success Outfitters" clothing drive in conjunction with Goodwill. The clothing drive arose from our collaboration with UNC Asheville's Career Center to create mentoring relationships between OLLI members and undergraduates seeking professional opportunities. We will host a food drive for Manna Food Bank later in the term.
We are also hosting an opportunity for our members to be hosts at Asheville Middle School on March 28 to help students with a "Reality Store" to teach the value of money. If you missed out on joining the initial "Call to Action" to find long-term opportunities working in the Asheville City schools, this is an opportunity to meet with OLLI friends and make a difference in the lives of young people in our community.
With gratitude for all of our members who enrich the OLLI community and the community at large,
Catherine Frank
Executive Director
