Dear OLLI members, We will be happy to have the building filled with our members who are back for the beginning of the Spring 2013 College for Seniors term. We have a record number of participants, so please remember that you have the option to park in the new lot on Campus View Road above the Reuter Center. The walk is only a short distance. If you are able to add a few steps to your routine, please consider parking here and leaving the spaces right at the Reuter Center for those who need to be close. You will be rewarded with an amazing view. Note that the Reuter Cafe will be open again, beginning at 9 am on Monday, March 25, with some new menu options (see details below). If you are taking food and drink to class, please be careful. Remember to use a lidded cup and to be considerate of those around you. We hope you will join us this Thursday, March 28, 4:15 pm in the Manheimer Room for our Annual Town Hall Meeting. This is an opportunity to hear about the Annual Member Survey, to get information on the finances of the Center, to meet the nominees for 2013-14 elected positions, and to have your questions answered. Many thanks to Babs Guardenier and the Hospitality Committee who will be providing refreshments. We also hope you have marked your calendar for the "Taste of UNC Asheville" event on Monday, April 1, 4:15 pm, and the opportunity to learn more about the work of undergraduate students and the ways we can support them. Thank you very much for everything you do to create our community of teachers and learners, Catherine Frank Executive Director |

What We Know Can Kill Us: Hunger, Obesity, and Policy Gaps in the USA
by Dr. Ameena Batada
Tuesday, April 9
4:15 - 5:45 pm
Reuter Center
Manheimer Room
Dr. Batada's talk will highlight the connections between food insecurity and obesity in the USA and the significant costs to our society. At the heart of the issue is the importance of healthy food over any food, and the role of government and corporate policies to support healthy choices. She will discuss how policies pertaining to school foods, marketing, labeling, and taxation are outdated compared to current nutrition and social sciences, and how we can take action personally and politically to reduce and prevent obesity and improve access to and consumption of healthy foods in our communities.
Ameena Batada, DrPH, is an assistant professor in the Health and Wellness Department at the University of North Carolina Asheville. Dr. Batada teaches courses on health parity, maternal and child health, community health promotion, and health communication.

TheatreUNCA will present the Tony Award-winning musical
"Spring Awakening,"
6 evening performances and one matinee,
opening April 4, 2013
in UNC Asheville's
Carol Belk Theatre.
Based on the once-banned 1891 drama by German playwright Frank Wedekind, this ground-breaking rock musical depicts themes of teenage self-discovery, sex, and violence, as adolescents grapple anxiously with their emerging adulthood.
As staged on Broadway with music by Duncan Sheik and words by Steven Sater, the drama is starkly set in the repressive Germany of 120 years ago, but the teens bring their emotions and yearnings - timeless and modern - to life through alternative rock music and lyrics.
The heart of "Spring Awakening" is its electrifying and heart-wrenching songs; the Broadway production helped launch Lea Michele, now famous for her role on TV's Glee, to stardom.
The TheatreUNCA production will feature new and original choreography by Asheville's own Tina Foor (Asheville Community Theater, Asheville Center for Performing Arts) and performances by UNC Asheville students and alumni who are also members of the Asheville Ballet Company: Duncan Barnes, Alyssa Belcher, Caroline Urks, and Lyle Laney.
Curtain time is 7:30 pm Thursday-Saturday, April 4-6 and 11-13, with a 2 pm matinee on Sunday, April 7. Tickets are $15, general public; $12 for seniors and UNC Asheville faculty/staff; $8 for students, and are available at http://drama.unca.edu/theatre-unca. For more information, call 828/251-6610.

REWINDING THE FIFTIES
Reuter Center Singers
Spring Concert
Saturday, May 18, 3 pm
The choir is busy learning music of this decade and has many ideas about ways to recall this unique time in our history through costuming, decorations, and advertising. These were years when many of us were in high school and college. One of the ideas that came out of our plans concerned the very unique and beautiful automobiles of the 50's.
WE NEED HELP FROM THE OLLI MEMBERSHIP.
Does anyone own a 1950s automobile they would be willing to display at the Reuter Cetner to publicize the concert? On May 18? A day or two before?

With the size of our membership we are hoping that there is someone who would be willing to come forward and be a part of our Fifties concert with the loan of a vintage auto to showcase the event. If anyone can help us with this request, please have them contact Bob Dutnell - President of the Reuter Center Singers, rhdutnell@gmail.com
