CAMPUS SPEED LIMIT
|
|
This is a friendly reminder that the campus wide posted speed limit is 20 MPH. Pedestrian safety is UNC Asheville Police Department's top traffic priority, and OLLI members should partner in the effort to keep pedestrians safe. Also, please be sure to observe the pedestrian crosswalks on campus and stop to let those on foot cross safely at these spots. Studies have proven that slowing traffic down will greatly reduce the chan ces of a fatal accident involving pedestrians and automobiles. A small change in speeds has a dramatic effect on whether those involved live or die.
Voluntarily compliance with the 20 MPH speed limit will help keep pedestrians safe and reduce the risk of serious injuries or death in the event of an accident.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Each year over the holidays generous volunteers gather at Asheville Mall to wrap packages to raise funds for CarePartners Hospice. Many clubs, businesses and neighborhoods volunteer as a group and let this event provide a holiday service activity. Those who have participated in the past tend to return year after year, not only because of the benefit to Hospice, but also because wrapping packages in the Mall with all the decorations and excitement is a fun time!
CarePartners is once again seeking volunteers for this event from Friday, November 23 through Monday, December 24. All the proceeds from gift wrapping benefit the patients and families served by CarePartners Hospice. The schedule is included below for your reference.
This year the Gift Wrap Chairperson is Karen Wilkinson of Biltmore Lake - and she would really appreciate your help. Hospice was wonderful to her husband Jay last year at the end of his fight with leukemia, so she knows firsthand the valuable role Hospice provides to the community. If you would like to volunteer to help Hospice, please contact Karen at kew45@charter.netor 633-1303 (home) or 551-2909 (cell).

Do you know about the Hearing (or Audio) Loop? An invisible wire surrounding a room, the hearing loop connects magnetically to your hearing aid, allowing you to hear a public speaker, your TV, etc. with a high degree of clarity, unaffected by room noise. The loop communicates with the PA system via the "telecoil" (or "T-coil") in your hearing aid. Nearly 3/4 of all hearing aids now have this feature. Ask your audiologist, or hearing aid dispenser, if you have a T-coil, or whether one can be added. Headphones may be borrowed for use with the loop by the hard-of-hearing who lack hearing aids. Hearing loops are common in many parts of the world. Finally, they are on the rise in the U.S. Two Asheville houses of worship are currently installing hearing loops. Now is the time to learn about hearing loops, and to prepare your ears and your hearing aids to make the connection! Click here to learn more Brought to you by OLLI's Hearing Advocates.
