A Montessori Moment
from Ms. Dolores:
Grace and Courtesy is a core Montessori principle that extends to the peace curriculum. It then blooms to cosmic education reaching to global awareness and respect for oneself, the community and the world. The final achievement is tolerance and appreciation.
Grace and courtesy is not a simple etiquette lesson or two; nor is it just learning to hold the door open for someone or just a please and thank you......it is the foundation of a Montessori education....and it begins with each and every one of us as the adult.
If part of our work is to educate the student to:
- be independent of the adult
- work with each other interdependently
- build responsibility
then it must begin with grace and courtesy from an early age and be reinforced throughout their Montessori education here at Countryside, all the way to their senior year.
