The holidays have started marking the season of gratefulness.  I recently heard a quote by Albert Einstein, "If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." This quote made me once again thankful to work and belong to the Assets School community where students strengths and passions are focused on and showcased.  Thank you again for being part of the Assets School `ohana and for believing in the work that we do each day to transform the lives of our precious students. Happy Thanksgiving!  Paul Singer, Head of School

PEOPLE THAT MAKE ASSETS WORK
MEET OUR EVENT CO-CHAIRS

Meet Norma Hara (left) and Marie Garrett (right), co-chairs of Illumination, Children Are Our Greatest Assets, our 2014 gala event.
Former President of our Assets Parents `Ohana (APO), Norma has been part of the Assets community since her oldest son Ryan started in 2002.  Jason, Ryan's younger brother has been an Assets student since 2003 and is currently a 10th grader.  Marie has been a very active volunteer since 2005 when her son Steven started Assets.   Steven is a graduate from the Class of 2011. We are delighted to have these dedicated women co-chairing this event.

Marie (pictured on the right) What do you value most about Assets School?  What I value most about Assets School is the teachers' assessment of each of their students to determine their strengths and weaknesses. With this information, they teach their students where help is needed and give them the opportunity to showcase their strengths. Assets School goes beyond graduation by keeping in touch with each student and inviting them to its annual Christmas Luncheon, Illumination, and sending the Annual Report. As an alumni parent, this shows me how Assets School values their students...our children.

Norma (pictured on the left)  What do you value most about Assets School?  What I value most about Assets School is its commitment to nurturing the gifts and talents of each student.  Assets teachers have the ability to look beyond the challenges these children have and not define them because of their differences.  Assets School sees these children as whole individuals and contributing members of society.  They have brought a new level to the word "caring" and because of this, they have not only transformed these children's lives but their families as well.
MAHALO DINNER
Honoring our Honu Society Members

Mahalo nui loa to our Honu Society members, some of whom are pictured here at our recent Mahalo Dinner celebration. In fact, we would like to say Mahalo 840,000 times!  Last year, thanks to our generous donors, Assets School was able to provide $840,000 in tuition assistance to help 37% of our students.   Each and every donation received helps us transform the lives of our students.  Mahalo to all!
