Quote of the Month

"A nurturing environment...values and respects individual differences. Students are rewarded for what they do well. Options are offered for both acquiring information and communicating what is learned. In such an environment, no child will feel like a second-class citizen, and the gifted students with learning disabilities can excel." − Susan Baum

Hawaii's very own Beatles tribute band, Day in the Life, will be playing at this year's Illumination, Come Together event.  The members of Day in the Life have made great strides in recreating the sounds and excitement of Beatlemania!  Be prepared to sing and clap along to your favorite Beatles' tunes as each song is played with the energy and professionalism that one would expect from the original Fab Four.

Illumination is our largest source of revenue for tuition assistance so please mark your calendars and join us for this spectacular evening!

We continue to look for auction items.   It is never too early to request an item for Assets from your favorite merchants.  Please click here to download a donation form.  In February, we will again be hosting an online auction so your friends and family on the mainland can bid on items to support Assets School.  Please bookmark us at http://www.biddingforgood.com/Assets and check back frequently as we acquire and upload new auction items!

Tickets and tables are available for purchase on line.  Click here to purchase tickets and tables.

This year's event will continue our tradition of the guest chef format, featuring DK Kodama of Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar, JJ Luangkhot of JJ Bistro and French Pastry, Ernesto Limcaco of Y. Hata, Goran Streng of Tango Contemporary Café, Alan Takasaki of Le Bistro, Eric Leterc of the Pacific Club, Fred De Angelo of The Grove, Elmer Guzman of Poke Stop and Jacob Silver of the Convention Center.    You don't want to miss out on this spectacular evening which includes a live and silent auction, fantastic prize drawings, ten gourmet tasting stations hosted by Hawaii's premier chefs and entertainment!

Please join us for Come Together to raise money for tuition assistance!

Campus Happenings
Thanks to the Cottington Trust for Intellectually Gifted Children, renowned author, educator and expert on twice exceptional children, Susan Baum led a workshop on Differentiation.  Assets teachers had the opportunity to interact and learn first hand from Susan ways to successfully differentiate curriculum to pique student interest. A proponent of strength-based teaching, Susan encouraged teachers to think of ways to alter content, process, product, assessment or environment to engage students.  High School teacher Jane Raissle commented, "I am also especially thankful that we were able to participate in this professional development opportunity as an entire faculty. It is huge to have everyone on the same page, with a common foundation knowledge and shared experiences to build upon in the future. Thank you for making this all possible!"
