Greetings!

Announcement from Chairman of the Board
Patrick McFadden

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Paul Singer has agreed to remain as Head of School through the school year ending 6/30/15. Paul has recently completed his 2nd year at Assets and has demonstrated a clear passion for and commitment to our students and their families.

Paul has shown the energy and leadership needed to guide Assets
through our future challenges. Paul has made a positive impact during
his tenure and we look forward to this stability in leadership as we
develop plans for our permanent campus.
People Who Make Assets Work
Sandi Tadaki has worked at Assets School since 1982. Originally from Hilo, Sandi moved to Oahu for graduate school and started her Assets career in testing.  Well-respected for her testing abilities, Sandi served as Head of Diagnostics for many years before being appointed Assistant Head of School and Director of Admissions.  With over 25 years of service in the Assets' community, Sandi is valued for her historic knowledge as well as the relationships she has with our many community members.
1.  What do you value most about Assets School?
What I value most about Assets is our people--trustees, administrators, faculty, and staff--all of whom work directly or indirectly to support our youngsters' academic, social, emotional and behavioral development. Together, we nurture and leverage strengths and interests, and foster self-awareness and resilience in our keiki.
2.  What is your goal for the current school year?
This year I will support the lower and upper school administrators as they assess their Spring testing schedules and requirements.
3.  What drew you to be an educator?
A funny thing happened on the way to Assets. I never intended to be an educator. I was recruited to do testing then fell in love with the school (enrichments!) and its people. I was and remain enamored by our children who should rightly be called our everyday heroes. I am continually inspired by them.
4.  Book by your bedside?
I'm reading The Girl Who Plays with Fire.  Bedtime reading is for relaxing!
5.  How do you stay current in the field?
I try to keep up by reading professional journals, relevant websites, mass media; attending local and sometimes national conferences; and communicating with professional colleagues here and elsewhere (e.g., "Have you heard about...?" "What do you think about...?").
Campus Happenings
Derek Daniels, a well-known dancer and choreographer in the Honolulu area, helped teach dance classes last week at Assets School.  Derek's visit was made possible by a donation from the Zachary Fujisaki Mar (Class of 2008) Foundation.

Other campus happenings include:
  • On September 8th, the high school headed to the Ice Palace, where they had fun skating and getting to know their classmates and teachers.
  • Both the K-8 and high school student body elections were held.
  • Teachers and parents alike enjoyed the opportunity to increase their knowledge base on ADHD with a presentation by Dr. Thomas Power, Program Director, Center for Management of ADHD at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Christmas in October?
Assets High School senate is embarking on a Christmas Tree and Wreath fundraiser.  Order forms must be received by October 25th and items are to be picked up on December 4, 2010.  For more details please see this link Christmas Tree Letter.  To place your order, please download the following order form, complete and turn into Mr. Jason Wagner.  Christmas Tree Order Form
Got Gadgets?
Oftentimes the start of a new school year leads to purchases of new electronic equipment and computers, leaving older ones to collect dust and take up space.  Assets School is hosting an online gadget drive through Gazelle to raise money for our technology department.   We would love your support while helping you to clean out closets and responsibly dispose of unwanted electronic materials!  For more details, please visit our drive webpage at http://assets.gazelle.com or click this link to download the gadget drive document.
Need to open a checking account?

Consider American Savings Bank's "Bank for Education" program.  From now until November 26th,  when you open a new account they will donate $25 to Assets School.  Just walk into any branch and let them know you want to help Assets.

Sincerely,

Assets School
