Easter People!
We often talk about Jesus and the wonderful ministry he shared with all those he met. He healed many people and saw everyone as equal. In Jesus' time, like ours, not everyone feels the same way. The government at that time did not allow people to speak up against the unfair treatment for most people in that time.
Jesus was so sure that God's love was for all people - not just some, that he spoke out - even though it was dangerous to do so. The government and people who could not see Jesus' new way of forgiving and loving, chose to arrest and have Jesus killed rather than follow his good advice.
It was so difficult in this time, that even Jesus' closest friends (his disciples) pretended not to know Jesus after he was arrested. Jesus was put to death, but our story goes on to say that the love of God cannot be killed. It's so hard for us to understand, but the earliest stories written about Jesus speak of Jesus being buried and after three days, rising from the grave (described in the book as a cave-like tomb with a large stone rolled in front of the entrance).
Our faith includes sharing in this miracle by allowing those unhealthy ways in us to die so that new life can rise in us! We actually hold the 'risen Christ' within us by being the hands, feet, heart and voice for Jesus - even today.
That's why we're "Easter People." And that's worth singing a mighty Alleluia for - don't you agree?
I hope to see you this Easter Sunday for either the 9 am or 11 am service. There will be a mixed age program for grades PK-3 during both services. Be sure to join us on the side lawn (with your baskets) for our annual Easter Egg Hunt!
Peace and Blessings,
Chris

Our Mission: Earth Alpha and the Environmental Ministry Team (EMT) are co-sponsoring a presentation on "What's in our Food?" on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7 PM in Fellowship Hall. Ian Skoggard, from the Church of the Redeemer, UCC, New Haven, who is active on the EMT of the Connecticut Conference and Cathryn Ciotti Lynch, head of GMO Free CT Shoreline group will discuss the ethical, health and environmental concerns being raised today about changes in food production . Th ere will be time for questions and discussion afterwa rds. EVERYONE is welcome. ___________________________________________ Some dedicated people have come together here at First Church and formed an Environmental Ministry. Helping us find ways to be a good steward of all of our creation in sustainable ways that will benefit our children's children is another sacred call we must heed.
Please read some specific ways you and your families can answer that call. Connecticut Conference churches are to join with congregations from around New England in another year of Mission 4/1 Earth activities. The goals for all of New England are: 50,000 Trees, 75,000 Earth Care Hours, and 5,000 Letters. What can First Church Guilford do? - Plant trees - physically, or by donating to National Arbor Day Foundation Arbor Day Link Here They have programs that plant in national parks, replant in disaster areas or rainforest restoration projects.
- Volunteer to care for the earth - can include gardening, clean up projects, gardening, recycling, educational activities, walking or bicycling instead of driving, using clotheslines instead of dryers, conserving energy or water. Work 'greening' the church plant and equipment also counts.
- Write letters of advocacy about environmental issues to elected officials and others who can make a difference.
CT Conference will tally the number of hours we devote to Mission 4/1 Earth activities, as well as the number of trees we plant, and the number of letters of advocacy (including emails) we send. So please drop a note to Ray Jonessoozweave@gmail.com or Bob Leete rbleete@comcast.netwith your hours, tree and/or letter totals so Guilford Church will gain recognition for this vital ministry. More information is available at the Mission 4/1 Earth link on the CT Conference website, www.ctucc.org, or from Ray and Bob. |

Lending Library Books that deal with children's issues, families and faith issues for kids are available to be borrowed by anyone. The books are on the shelves in Room 9 (next to Griswold Hall) and there is a simple 'lending procedure' card that gives directions on how to borrow a book. Many thanks to Marjorie Colton for working with me to offer these books to families from our Minear Library. Any questions? Ask Chris.

Our Sponsored Children
Our children's ministry has accepted the sacred responsibility of sponsoring two students in South India. Schooling in India is not free as it is in our United States. In partnership with First Church's Board of Community and World Concerns, we will pay for one girl and one boy to attend the King's Matriculation School on the campus of Family Village Farm.
In addition to paying for their schooling fees, which include tuition and a daily lunch, we are encouraged to send letters, cards and of course, our prayers!
Please read their stories, which are posted on the wall just outside the entrance to the Church School from the Sanctuary. You will also see our letters to the children there.
See Chris Solimene if you would like to know other ways you can assist young Gowthami and Raghul. Our combined efforts allow them to receive life-changing hope, trust and optimism through our gifts and prayers...
'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'
Said Jesus, Matthew 25:40
