Announcing Start of 2015 Directory

It is time to update and publish our annual Membership and Resource Guide!  The Chamber has once again partnered with ECM Publishers to produce this year's directory.  In the coming weeks, you will be contacted by one of their representatives to discuss which advertising option is the best fit for you.  The annual Membership and Resource Guide will be distributed in January 2015 and gives your investment one full year of shelf life.  Members want to do business with other members, and that is why this reference guide is the perfect complement to the networking events you participate in.  Please support the Chamber and use this exclusive member guide to let your fellow businesses know what you can do for them throughout the year. Additionally, please take this time to log in to your account and update your main representative, address, telephone and website. Please email Chelsea if you would like to purchase an additional category or representative listing.

We're Losing Ground; Elections Matter

Minnesota is losing ground in creating private-sector jobs, and there's something you can do about it:  Support pro-business candidates in the Nov. 4 elections.

A recent report by Adam Belz in the Star Tribune underscores why this year's elections matter to the livelihood of employers and employees alike. The analysis by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Minnesota dead last in the Midwest in growing private-sector jobs, adding fewer jobs in almost every industry than previously thought. The analysis is considered more reliable than monthly jobs reports that often are adjusted for accuracy.

A disturbing trend at the Capitol where the Governor and Legislature have increased the cost of doing business in Minnesota must be stopped.  Our business community cannot afford the same results as the 2014 Legislature, on top of the 2013 session.  We must elect individuals who understand what it takes to develop and expand Minnesota's economy.

Your Chamber makes it easy for you to find out which candidates support the priorities of you and your employees.  Give us a call to learn more about our positions on key policy issues and how our current legislators matches up.  From there you can make an informed decision when casting your vote on Nov. 4.

Know where your candidates stand on your concerns: Our Legislative Scorecard shows how incumbents voted on business priorities at the 2014 Legislature. Dakota County Regional Chamber PAC identifies and supports pro-jobs candidates.

Find your polling place: You're armed with the information. Now be certain you know where to cast your ballot.

Minnesota Employers Tee up their 2015 Agenda
Column from MN Chamber Interim President Bill Blazar

The 2015 legislative session is around the corner, and Minnesota businesses are making a clear statement: We need a new direction at the Capitol if our companies are to grow and develop jobs. That message was underscored in the annual findings of the Minnesota Business Barometer Survey co- sponsored by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and Himle Rapp & Company, a public affairs firm headquartered in Minneapolis. Nearly 90 percent of the respondents in this year's Business Barometer said the Governor and Legislature play a role - 35 percent said a very important role - in shaping the state's business climate. At the same time, they stressed a continuing disconnect. Sixty-three percent - including 24 percent strongly so - said elected officials generally do not understand the everyday challenges facing businesses. More than two-thirds said a government decision played a role in a business decision at least several times a month.
