News You Should Know
DCR Chamber Hosts Legislative Breakfast: Economics of 2014
The DCR Chamber hosted a Legislative Breakfast: Economics of 2014 this past week. Attendees heard from Minnesota's State Economist, Dr. Laura Kalambokidis on the economic realities for business growth in 2014. During this event we took a quick poll asking, "How did your business fare in 2013?" 57% of those surveyed saw an increase in profits, 8% saw a loss and 35% stayed the same. When asked, "What do you forecast for your business for 2014?" 69% predicted they would see an increase in profits, 0% thought they would have a loss of profits and 31% believe they will stay the same.
We invite you to join us at next month's Legislative Breakfast on the topic of taxes. This event will be on Friday, February 21st from 7:30am - 9:00am at the Commons on Marice (1380 Marice Drive, Eagan). To RSVP, contact Jessy Annoni at 651.288.9202 or jannoni@dcrchamber.com.
Businesses Invited to Participate in Cable TV Survey
Businesses located in Inver Grove Heights, West St. Paul, South St. Paul and Mendota Heights (and their employees) now have an opportunity to express their opinions on Cable TV service provided by COMCAST. Those four cities have what is essentially a land-use agreement with Comcast where Comcast has installed lines in the City's easements and they use those lines to sell their services to residents and businesses. The contract between the cities and Comcast is nearing renewal and participation in an online survey would be very helpful in preparing for those negotiations.
Please consider taking a few minutes to complete this survey this week and invite your employees to do the same. The more survey responses we get, the better. There is a drawing for prizes as well for anyone completing the online survey. Participation in the survey will help the cities greatly in the upcoming negotiations with Comcast who is the exclusive provider of Cable TV services for homes and businesses in those cities.
PolyMet Mining Proposed Copper-Nickel Mine in Northeastern MN
Mining is part of Minnesota's proud past - and can be part of an exciting Minnesota future. PolyMet Mining has proposed building a modern copper-nickel mine in Northeastern Minnesota that will create jobs, boost the economy and sustain our communities - all while meeting state and federal environmental standards put in place to protect our treasured woods, water, air and wildlife.
State and federal agencies have released the supplemental draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS). Now's your chance to review the document and share your opinions, questions and concerns. The SDEIS release and launch of the public comment period is a major milestone for PolyMet Mining. Your support is crucial, please join thousands of other Minnesotans by signing the online petition supporting the project. Click here to learn more.
Sales and Use Tax - Storage and Warehousing
After nearly eight months of passing a new sales tax on storage and warehouse services, the Department of Revenue has released some details. While your Chamber continues to advocate for repeal of this tax, it's important for all businesses to understand the implications of this tax and how it may or may not affect their business. Find out more here. If you are interested in learning more about the B2B repeal efforts or joining the coalition, contact Vicki Stute at 651.288.9201.
